Space was empty...and then it was not. The form which emerged from the warp would be difficult to pin down for size. Suddenly, other ships started unfolding from the warp in formation ahead of it. The other ships are a mix of Seltorian cruiser class hulls. They are all dwarfed by the giant which now stares them in the face. Slowly, a dish is raised on the back of the juggernaut...coming to stop in roughly perpendicular line with the small fleet.

Suddenly, the small fleet of ships start to explode. In one's and two's, as if the the electromagnetic separation between matter and anti-matter has suddenly, purposely been removed expanding balls of energy replace the once viable fleet.

Unmoved at the edge of the destruction, the juggernaut waits as the first trailing edge of an explosion meets it. A halo of coruscating energy envelopes the behemoth and just as quickly is drawn into the dish. All the energy around the ship that was expanding outward is quickly redirected - as light which has passed too close to a black hole. Even the energy wave which was blasting outward and away from the ship is folded and curved in around itself, inexorably drawn into the vortex which has formed within the shallow curves of the massive antennae. Space is darkened once again as the fire blooms are snuffed out like so many candles.

With the smallest of movements, the gathered energy is reduced to a single point of light and propelled out into the void beyond Seltorian space.

What Darc tangent is describing (though not in full detail as of yet) is a special seltorian weapon that when used harnesses the nearby warp core signature of warships ( in this case setlorian escorts) the massive power is then collected into a massive harnessing dish. the Dish then is used to project the harnesed power into a molecule thin beam of energy, the energy is used by the seltorian to disrupt the WTN (warp transit network) which is used exclusivley in the cmapiagn as the means for accurate and fast transportation. This time the Seltorain Juggernaught Arachnid Major used the collected WTN disruption beam to nullify the WTN in the Romulan Union!! there was massive spill over to this as it also minorly affected the Hydran Vanguards WTN on the Romulan Unions border. The HCS went to a war footing, the Masive Hydran flagship the Balck Prince went to active stations however no comuncation was possible all oalong the border so individual captains and private commerce ships had to make thier own decision... A dangerous place to be. the saem holds true for the Romulan Union, The Romulan Emperator Tarsk the undying; was advised that this was most likely a Hydran (HCS) move of aggresion, unfortunatley the ROmulan star legion that was on the HCS border was also affected and no communication is possible at this time. Without the WTN ships are forced to use impulse engines for travel in the huge gulfs, or they can activate their powerful warp engines and fold into the warp and slip into the fabirc that binds the multi-verse...but it could have disasterous consequences.

MEANWHILE:
"commander, I am sure for a moment there was an anomoly, a sort of beacon in space, it registers on only our deep space wave length analyzer" ....the captain of the ship took into account this recent event,...glory he thought..maybe? or death? space is vast and potentially terrible, as the oracles say. "move the ship to intercept, I want to know what is happening" the efficient bridge crew responded with military precision, the ship'c bridge lights went to an amber color as offensive systems were prepared and deflector shields were raised.

"it is a ship my lord, adrift in space and behind it is a rift in space, scanners indicate that it is wormhole or a type of blackhole without the gravitational consquences" the Vulcan science officer relayed this to the Captain..

"lock weapons on the ship, destroy it, it is romulan!" within seconds the Romulan scout was blown to peices by the weapons of the Cruiser.....

"tell Starfleet we are invesitgating the wormhole and going in, there may be a threat to the Empire here to contend with.....tell them to send back-up" The captain ordered, and the ship went to red alert.

Slowly the Terran Star Empire Cruiser the ISS Intrepid slid towards the Rift and towards our current universe........................

Hello PM ( and the group that games with him/her?) yes please keep these updates coming. I have not reviewed the forum in a bit and was excited to see that the campaign continues in all of it's glory. yucky nasty suprise to see TSE ships again.

I love the story driven component to this camaign and the modality it has to allow the players to take it in any direction they wish.

thanks!

CURRENT CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION:

Player controlled races:

the Hydran Co-Prosperity Sphere
A fusion of the Hydran Monarchy and the Tholian Assembly; these two empires were on more than freidnly terms before the Reckoning, and became quick allies during the most furious moments of the Seltorian Advance. The HCS admires chivalry, honor and a warriors code that is based in service to the monarchy and the Holy See. they have a harsh view of those that do not observe thier moral and temporal fibre. the Tholians tend to be the more temporal and form a fanatical branch of the HCS with minimal royal presence but dreadfully powerful regardless of thier political standing. the Hydrans are branched into two distinct proto races...perhape they will be revealed at another time.

ships 35-40
Economy 500+
Allies None, freindly with the Solarian Church, neautral with the orion prime and zero tolerance for the cartels.

Notable NPCS
Arch Duke Cassius. commander of the Hydran forces on the romulan union border
Admiral Vorak, tholian Admiral over 500 years old commanding the forces on the Hydran Marches on the border of the Empire

The Romulan Union:
the Romulans had the Lyran leadership assasinated just before the reckoning took place in a swift move to destabalize the beta quadrant and eventually destroy the Hydrans. they did not know that they would need the combined forces of thier new "union" to survive the Seltorian Advance. Both the Romulans and the Lyrans lost 4 Battleships combined against the Seltorian forces. The Union currently is very quiet and had remained cloaked in secrecy and non interference for over 50 years. however with the recent disruption of the WTN the Romulan Union has mobilized it's powerful navy and moved the vetran malachite Legion composed of Lyran ships to the hydran Border.

Ships 40+
Economy 600+
Allies NONE, freindly with neither the Seltorian Church or the Orion Prime, however they have massive ties with the powerful and unporedictable Orion Cartel Pirates.

Notable NPCS:
Imperator Tarsk the Undying, the current ruler of the Romulan Union, supposedly immortal
Admiral Numitor Rex, the powerful commander of the Imperial I Star Legion on the hydran Border

The Empire:
The Empire has the fewest ship, the two powers that form the empire the economic oriented United Federation of Plantes and the Militant Klingon Empire had both been engaged in massive wars just as the reckoning started. the main focus of the Seltorian Advance was in teh direction of the WYN cluster where several Lyran and Romulan Ships were lost and the WYN cluster eventually swallowed by the HIVE. the Empire was spared most of the costly battles thought thye did lose 2 incredibly powerful B-10 Battleships in battle that eventually broke the will of the seltorian advance. Currently the Empire has embarked on a reniassance of research and have produce new ship variants which are yet to appear in battle.

Ships 20-30
Ecomony 650+
Allies NONE, Freindly with the Orion prime guild, neutral to the Cartels.

Notable NPC's
Admiral Thorn, the fighting admiral, a human admiral commanding the forces of the empire on the hydran marches border

THE NPE'S (non player Empires)

The Seltorian Hive:
a terrifyingly powerful race of insects all linked to to a central consciousness, the creators of teh robot war machines...created to fight who? not the current empires of the campaign, the Seltorians precede the current races by thousands of years..thier ancient enemy is not dead merely seeking.

Ships 70+
Economy ?
Allies?

Notable NPCS ?

The Solarian Church:
After and during the reckoning, so great was the terror and the anguish of all the civilized races that faith was rekindled and in that faith a powerful new force was formed. A force to fight against the hive and to keep the empires in check as the guardians of the living, the Solarian church sees all sentiant beings as thier charge. the Church's powerful Patriarchial Fleet is a force to be reckoned with. they have the last surviving BB from the reckoning the masive and ancient Messiah a G.O.R.N configuration Capital ship who's phaser 3's were stripped and replaced with drone racks.

Ships 100+
Economy ?
Allies: the HCS
Enemies: the Orion Prime, the Romulan union most notably the Imperator

Notable NPC's
Patriach Dolmas, the representative of the Holy See in to the HCS, a very powerful adn influential prince of the church.

Patriarch Eamoon Belaque, current head of the Solarian Inquisistion.

Lord Bishop Commander telemen Frost, Human Commander of the templar fleet and the commander of the Messiah.

THE ORION PRIME:
The methodical, logical, cold calculating logistics masters of the known empires. they control the trade routes, tarrfifs, ports and ancient technology. a hated foe by some and a powerful ally to fewer. the Orion Prime controls the trade routes and own 90% of the ports, commercial stations and freighter fleets. an economic power house with an ancient secret and even more secret agenda that only the most powerful Primarchs know about. the assasins of the Orions prime are the best in the game, and thier ships captians are assasins of enemy ships though disguised as businessmen. the guild as it is sometimes called is old and has it's roots in the original Orion system that was part of the Federation, they have since evolved from this to that of galactic players who pull the strings of the various power blocks of the campaign. the Orions invented the "game" an intesnly dangerous game of politics, intrige and espionage all hidden behind the false face of indifference.

Ships??
Economy??
Allies??
Enemies??

Notable NPC's
Jeral Malafint, Guild Lord and representative to the Empire also a Guild Master of Assasins, his flagship is the Orion DN Purgatory, besides that he has over 100 freighters, Prime traders, priority transports and other ships in his employ

THE CARTELS:
the pirates, rougues, mercanaries, you name it they do it...why do they fly guild ships?? well they have and fly any and all ships available, one of the most notorious cartel ships is the Thunder Dancer a Romulan KR cruiser modified and convertred to pirate specs.

known cartels:
Foehammer
Obsidian
Masada
Magister

Notable NPC's
Captain Stilleto, commadner of the Orion BCH Eviscerator, a powerful operator and player in the Foehammer cartel and currently wanted dead or alive in the HCS

THE TSE...
they are back!! Muahhahahahaha!

Turn 15 update: sorry this is slow late in being posted.

Well turn 15 is finally concluded and it was an action packed turn.

on the tail end of the turn the Seltorians were discovered by the klingons buidling a secret base in thier territory. The Klingons had sent the FD-7 Ch'tang to perform exploration in the Cerebus Asteroid marches on thier border. The Cerebus Asteroids occupy two full systems on the campaign map and the Klingons were naturally wanting to secure these systems since on the other side they border up against the Seltorian Hive and share a small area on the Romulan Unions border.

The FD-7 began to approach the border of the fields when they were challenged by an unknown ship warning them off. the Klingons could not get a visual only an audio feed. The Ship warned them that if they crossed the border into the field that they would be in violation of the sovereign territory of the Vudar Enclave a Protecerate of the Seltorian Hive!

The Ch'tang fired a probe into the field and picked up the warp energy signature of at least 7 more ships laying within strike range, they also picked up the distant power signature of what had to be a Starbase, the Ch'tang decided to start exploring up and along the border without crossing into Vudar territory, meanwhile the captain advised Empire Central Starfleet command or the CSC of the situation.

As the FD-7 continued to scan they detected a ship operating on thier side of the border, what they discovered to their horror was a Seltorian Heavycruiser which was making for a point further inside Empire Territory. The FD-7 scanned and determined the trajectory and probable destination point of the CA and made to intercept they also screened the CA and found it to be carrying a large amount of cargo. When they arrived at the location that the Seltorian CA was moving towards they discovered soemthing even more disturbing, in the ring of dead systems surrounding the seltorian hive there was evidence of activity taking place that no one had known about. the Seltorians were in the begining stages of buidling a Mobile base.

The FD-7 engaged the Seltorian Ca and the Mobile base. in short order the FD-7 had vaporized the Mobile base with it's powerful phaser and drone suite. Then the Ch'tang turned to face the closing seltorian CA. and they were in for a suprise. As you all may or may not know the races in this game can conduct research and create new systems both at the ship level and or the campaing leve, that which follows is an example of that in action

As the Ch'tang closed they begain to lose thier shield strength at range 9 they had 10 boxes on each shield drop! they scanned a powersouce from the seltorian CA adn that power was directed at them. the FD-7 continued on it's attack run, at range 4 the Klingon ship had lost 15 boxes on each shield, then the Seltorian Ca opened fire with 8 phaser 1s and a particale cannon, teh Klingon ship also fired the Seltorian took 1 point from shield burn through, the Ch'tang took 27 internals.,.......

then the Seltorian CA exploded. it seems that when they engage thier new shield dampening technology that if they also fire weapons within 5 impulses of activating the field that there is a small chance of the ships powergrid converting warp power into a mass reaction. this is what happened in this case.

Here is a breif description of the Shield dampening field generator.

SELTORIAN SHIELD DAMPENING GENERATOR

There is no system on the ship card for this, it is similar to a cloaking device in that it cannot be destroyed from damage, though marine hot and run can disable it.

power to operate 6 per ship targetted

the units use is announced in the other functions phase preceeding cloaking device activation
effect

range
6-10 all shield on the target ship lose 10 points
3-5 all sheilds lose 15 points
1-2 all shields lose 20 points
0 all shields lose 25 points

special:
if the seltorian ship that engaged the field also fires any weapons within the first 5 impules after the field was placed there is a chance of a core explosion or field failure. note this roll is needed every impulse that weapons are fired for those 5 impulses

roll a die 6
1 indicates critical failure and the ship explodes as the warp core losses integrity and spills its positive matter directly into the ship.
2 the dampening field fails and is lost the system cannot be repaired under damage control rules and takes repair at a station
3 the unit seases to function but may be reused after 1 full impulse passes

4-6 no effect the unit works

This update is not done yet, I will return later to tell about the rest of the turn, include the re-appearance of the TSE! and wha is looking like a massive batle that is getting ready to be fought at the start of turn 16.

turn 15 continued:

political:
nothing really new here, all of the previous alliances and positions are still the same from the previous post.

One exception, reports began to sparadocially leak out of the Union that the Lyran side of the union had been attacked by forces of the Romulan fleet proper. according to freighter captains that were hurrying over the border to the Empire, the romulans had attacked and plasma bombed the key Lyran worlds and had been engaged with elements of the Lyran Clan fleet. It seems that the romulans broker no equal status within thier regime and are trying to make the Romulan Union...Romulan.

Also there is reported unrest in the Empire between the Klingon empire hard frontliners and militants and the More reserved Federation. this may be a small spark, but as we all know sparks can lead to a violent fire.

Economic:

HCS: Started construction on a massive starship, soon to be completed

Empire:
completed and put into active duty two new CVS, s and started converting a Bats to a Starbase.

Romulan Union: Unknown at this time what they are producing or even doing.

Research: none

Pirates/Raids: none

Random Encounters: forgot to roll....ughh

Spies: Nothing New

Battles:

the aforementioned battles between the seltorian Ca and the klingon FD-7

and.......

along the border that separates the empire from the Romulan Union a Klingon Patrol vessel picked up an incoming ship crossing the border from romulan space. the scans indicated a federation configuration New Jersey class Heavy Battlecruiser! In fact it is a TSE BCH, the ISS Havoc. she is pursued across the border into empire airspace by 3 romulan ships! a KRC, a Firehawk and a Sparrowhawk. the Empire mobilized thier border fleet and is fast approaching, at the same time the Seltorians picke dup the incusrion and moved in with ships of thier own to intercept a Seltorian DN a Seltorian BCH and a Seltorian CA!! plus about 6 Klingon ships...this will be an intersesting battle!!!!!

Turn 16 will begin on friday of this next week, on turn 16 we will most likely be welcoming a new player to the venerable Empire campaign which is in it's 2nd year of storytelling.

warwick is new to the group and a welcome addition.

Turn 16 see's the following forces arrayed for battle

Seltorian: 1XDN, 1XBCH, 1XCA (2-3 Ships in reserve)

TSE: 1X BCJ

Romulan: 1xKRC, 1XFH, 1XSPH (Vulture DN, Royalhawk, 2XWE in reserve)

Klingon/Federation (AKA Empire)
1XBCJ, 1XC-7, 1XD-7CVS, 1XD-5, 1XNCL(fed), 1XFFB, (F-D7 and D-5 in reserve)

and then on to the campaign turn...much will happen, what has happened to the Lyrans? where are the Seltorians getting thier direction? what if any is future TSE involvement?

I am looking forward to running the Romulan Empire into the ground Smile

Pete,

I have changed phones and jobs so I might be hard to get a hold of right now. I am sending you a new PM with my contact information. If I could get directions to the gaming site I will be able to attend.

"Damn those Federation council fools! Enemies all around us and they tell us not to start any fights...it makes us look WEAK!" The last word is emphasized by a balled fist slamming into the command chairs arm. Before Captain K'losgh of the D5 Eelst can continue his rant a voice calls out from the science station, "Sir, sensors have picked up ships coming across the Romulan Union border into Empire space! Four ships, all cruiser class hulls. Identified as a Kestral, 2 Sparrowhawk series, and...", the Vulcan science office turns from his sensor station and looks directly at his commander, one raised eyebrow the only indication of emotion - confusion...,"a New Jersey class battlecruiser. The Romulan ships appear to be in pursuit."
"What?! Alter course to intercept! Comms, signal Battlestation Valhalla and Fleet Admiral Kor'Toth. Find out if we have any cruisers making raids into Union space. Perhaps I have underestimated our allies after all." This last said with a grim smile, under his breath.

Seconds later..."Sir, the Republic is still with the Northern Fleet on the Hydran Co-Prosperity Union border, the Alliance is with the Home fleet, and the New Jersey is with the Southern Fleet. Admiral Kor'Toth is standing by with the Southern Fleet between the Union and new Seltorian borders." "Very well. Time to intercept?" "30 seconds."

"They have dropped out of the Warp. Visual range." The main view screen flickers and a familiar distant silhouette can be made out against the star studded background. "Fed design. Could this be a trick? Any of that design captured by the Romulans during the Seltorian Surge?" "No sir." "Maximum magnification." The familiar disk comes into focus, but the gold oak clusters outlining the port and starboard curves are not...nor is the name: ISS Havok.

"Sir, the Romulans have detected us and are hailing...voice only."

"YOUR SHIP HAS INVADED ROMULAN UNION SPACE AND ATTACKED AND DAMAGED OR DESTROYED UNIONS VESSELS. INTERFERENCE IN THE PURSUIT AND DESTRUCTION OF THIS VESSEL WILL BE CONSIDERED AN ACT OF WAR."

"Open communications with the battlecruiser." "Frequency open." "This is Captain K'losgh of the Imperial Cruiser Eelst to battlecruiser, who.." "EMPIRE?!? There is only one Empire! We are the Terran Star Empire. We have attacked the Romulan forces after coming through a spatial rift. Will you fight with us or against us?"

"Sir. long range sensors are picking up 3 more ships crossing the border into Empire space...from the Seltorian border." "Calculate rendevous coordinates with the Southern Fleet and alert Admiral Kor'Toth to the current situation. And tell that idiot in the battlecruiser to change heading and follow us." "Sir."

10 minutes later..."Changing course to match fleet heading."

The D5 comes about sharply as 5 ships drop out of the warp around it: the Southern Fleet flag ship C7 Make', BCJ New Jersey, D7V (Strike Carrier) Kenek, NCL Repulse, and FBB Marko Ramius. Roughly 400,000 klicks away another fleet drops out at nearly the same time: A Seltorian Dreadnaught, Heavy Battlecruiser, and Heavy Cruiser. The TSE ship, ISS Havok, is at just under 300,000 km from each fleet and the 3 Romulan ships are less than 200,000 km behind it.

Fleet Admiral Kor'Toth gestures to his security/comm officer. "Havok on line, Sir." "This is Admiral kor'Toth..." at nearly the same time from the TSE ship, "So, are you here to surrender to us?" With an annoyed sharp gesture, the channel is cut off. "Open communications with the Romulans." "Open, Sir." "The ship you are pursuing is not ours. Do with it what you will, but do it quickly and then get out of Empire space immediately. Kor'Toth out. Send to the Seltorian fleet: leave Empire space or be destroyed. Order the Kenek to launch all fighters. All photon armed ships attack vector on the Seltorians. Fleet ahead slow to let the fighters out in front. Bring the rest of the fleet on vector between the Romulans and Seltorians."

"No response from the Seltorians. They are on attack vector with the Havok. The Havok and the Romulans are talking now. We are being hailed by the Romulans." " Open channel." "The captain of the Havok has admitted to a misunderstanding and has decided to return to the Romulan Union with us." "Fine, leave Empire space, now." "We respect your decision as we are within your domain, but we are willing to fight a common enemy." "No, withdraw. We will handle the Seltorians." "Very well." While the conversation is taking place, the Havok has executed a high warp turn and is heading back toward the Romulan fleet. The Romulans maintain heading until the last possible moment and then launch a full salvo of standard and fast-load plasma F's at the oncoming Seltorian fleet before emulating the Havok and heading back toward the Union border. The Seltorian fleet takes a frustrated parting shot at the fleeing TSE ship and does its own about face pursued, albeit briefly, by the plasma torpedo swarm.

As the torpedoes burn out, the Seltorians swing around to engage the larger Empire fleet. "Sir, three more ships dropping out of the warp behind the Seltorian squadron!" Command and control between the cruisers and dreadnaught go still as they are taken over. At high sublight speed, two Seltorian light cruisers race to join the other ships of their kind...flanking the deadly form of an ISC Command Cruiser. (to be continued...)

I played my first game with this group and they are a great group of guys. I lost most of the ships I was given to command and felt pretty bad about it, but had alot of fun. I also learned that I suck with fractions and probably gave my FF and NCL an extra point of energy (or lost a point I kinda sucked at it.) I will use decimal and keep a running total to ensure I do not make such mistakes again.

It was also eye opening to play using minis without a hex grid. I did not have a solid guage of position as one does with hexes. Due to this I ran my BCH right into the ISC Cruiser at zero range. I thought for sure I could turn inside of her and get away but as the impulses slipped by I realized(actually realized on the ride home) at speed 16 and a turn mode of 4 3 full impulses of turn result in about a 60 degree facing change with most of my movement energy moving my towards my enemy.

I do feel bad this learning experience was paid for with Federation vessels. I think there might be a Romulan Union to Klingon/Fed Empire lend lease program started to defray some of those costs Smile
