I recently picked up the booster with the Gorn CC. I'm comparing it to the BC and found the only difference was the addition of two flag boxes.
That's it.
No power. No weapons. Just 2 control spaces. The Fed CC Gets extra power and 2 extra P-1...so why not the Gorn?
Just wondering. |

Maybe they just needed some more C&C? Or didn't have a lot of money?

If you looked at the SFB versions of the ships, you'd probably find that the CC was a lot better than the unrefitted heavy cruiser, but the refits that turned the heavy cruiser into the battlecruiser brought the CA up to the CC standard. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue

You havwe to consider it was BC to CC, not CA to CC (Sure, the Fed CA can take most races BC's, but still...) |

Nope, the only difference between the Gorn CA/BC and CC is indeed the two flag bridge boxes. Kinda weird, but there you are. Refits don't factor into it, as the CA and unrefitted CC are only different by the flag bridge boxes, and the BC and refitted CC (the CCF) are only different by the flag bridge boxes.
The Gorn situation is just different. Each empire approached their own situation differently, and this is what they did. So, their CC isn't impressive. They made up for it with their BCH, which is. It is just the way it is. _________________

It's worth bearing in mind that for most of the Middle Years, the Gorns had no contact with other warp-capable powers (unless you count the Orions, I guess - but then, too much contact with them might raise some questions...) - the Paravians not off to Omega were dead, the Romulans were still using non-tactical warp, and neither the UFP nor ISC had been contacted yet.
So, while the Gorn ships of the Middle Years might look a little odd compared to others of its era, they make more sense in the context of a navy (and penny-pinching Senate) reaching down to the level of the enemies they already knew about.
Had they known what a Klingon or Lyran or Federation command cruiser looked like, they might have acted differently - but at the time of construction, they went with what they knew about.
Those decades of momentum may have carried over, at least for a time, into the refit era, too. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)
