I had the unique opportunity to meet SVC at ORIGINS this weekend. I have been wargaming for 29 years now and it has provided a tremendous amount of enjoyment. I mention this as the first wargame that I purchased at my local hobby store was the TFG pocket game Starfleet Battles.
SFB lead to many, many other acquisitions towards an activity that I now share with my children. Steve started a phenomenon that has brought pleasure to generations of gamers.
Here's a pic of us at the show...
Steve, thanks for being so nice to both my son and daughter... it was my pleasure to meet and chat with you.

I think that's SVC on the right of the picture. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue

Terry is correct. SVC is the one on the right. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Yep, my OSU Buckeyes cap gives me away... When I graduated, they made me sign in blood that I would wear buckeye accoutrements in all pictures with foreign dignitaries, attractive women and wargame designers.

Well... other than WebMom and Coleen - do you ever really get to talk to any of the booth babes?
I stopped by the Anient Lore booth and one of the D20 girls was there minding the displays... every time I'd ask her a question, she'd have to get one of the "uber-Geeks" to come over and answer the question while she went to attract another gawker into the display area.
At least Jean and Colleen could answer questions about the games they were hawking! _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

There were of course the "eye candy" components to the vendor booths - although I didn't see Chainmail Girl. (You know, the one that just wears a chainmail dress, and well, that's it)
I would certainly NEVER get my picture taken with any booth babe as this would significantly reduce my chances of returning to a CON as my wife would require explanation...

Caylee didn't make it to the convention this year, as far as I know.
I didn't make it a point to stake-out the FLying Buffalo booth 24-7, but no one from our group saw her and you had to walk past the FB booth to get to ADB's... so someone should have seen her.
As for the rest of the "Eye Candy"... 95% of it was the D20 Girls and they were a bit too excessively waifish and goth for my liking; although some of the fan-made costumes were nice... _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Huh, one of the D20 girls took a good 6 minutes or so to talk to me. It was a blast getting to meet SVC, especially when he passed on the knowledge that I would die once I finished my last mini. |

Oh no... don't get me wrong. The D20 girls would talk to you... after all, that's what they were hired to do. And many of them were very cordial, they just weren't very knowledgeble about the games they were hawking... but then again, they aren't necessarily supposed to be... _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Totally off subject but... there is an agency out there which all of the booth babes have to play games in order to be hired. The business woman who started the company was tired of going to the trade shows and seeing exactly as described above. |

Hello everyone,
Thank you guys for a great Origins experience. We were constantly on the go during the convention but it was nice to sit and visit with everyone as time allowed. I had a blast discussing the various ideas for Federation Admiral, business, the convention, and just life in general.
Tyrel and I were talking about what a possible Federation Admiral event would look like, assuming we could find room to play such a thing. I was thinking that we could have a some players in one room, some in another, and play a quick 12 turn campaign with all the Federation Commander battles rolled in. Every player could get a role in the group and have a team oriented game.

Just stick your head in room D240 and see how the F&E guys were doing...
It'd be similar to that... lots of fun, lots of comraderie, and lots of bloody violence!
Maybe have tables split down the middle of the room...
Team A plans it's turn on one side...
Team B on the other...
The GM accepts turn orders, plots out the moves, and generates battles / encounters...
These would then be fought on the tables in the center of the room using Federation Commander...
The results of each battle would then be translated back into the campaign system and the new turn would begin...
Lather, rinse, repeat...
To make it really interesting, have two F&E players generate the turns move orders, but do not let them enter the Fed Admiral room! They have to run things from their respective HQs and trust the highly trained individuals in charge of the starships in the various locations to deal with the various situations as they arise....
