Hi.

I had mentioned this in another thread, but I figured it might be more apt to give them a thread of their own.

FC: Briefing 2 introduces a range of Middle Years units to Federation Commander, for a number of different Alpha empires. Also, it not only lists those Ship Cards which previously exist (or will be published in the future) that are suitable for use in this setting, but also includes a couple of units which are themselves ready as-is for use in the Main Era of FC. However, given the somewhat different technology level of the era, there are a small number of rules changes which affect ships flown in the Middle Years era.

So, I guess my question is in a few different parts.

One - will the various units listed in B2 be added to the library for FCOL?

Two - will a distinct 'Middle Years' category be added for ships which are found in this era, which would include eligible pre-existing entries and not preclude those B2 ships which can fly in the Main Era as they are?

Three - will an option be added to allow for the use of the somewhat different Middle Years weapon and system rules in an event set in that era?

1) I should be able to. Let me check with SVC.

2) Do you think this is needed? If so, it can be done.

3) That will not be a high priority. But let me get B2 first. (I am picking it up at Origins)

Okay.

While I suppose one could run 'transitionary' battles between Middle Years and Main Era ships, the two types are generally treated as separate settings in FC - but again, there are a few (nost notably Tholian) Ship Cards which are intended for use in both eras.

I hope you enjoy it - but bear in mind that it does have a few things, like rules regarding Middle Years ESGs for example, which are more apt for use in the Middle Years era.

Hi.

I was just checking to see if you (Paul) had a chance to pick up, and look over, B2 yet?

Picked up but not look over. I hope to look this weekend if not today. I have company over so it makes it a little more difficult.

If you want, Paul, I can put those 72 cards on my "do one card a day for Paul" list.

That's good news, but it would still be worth noting the various rule changes listed in B2 for those ships - such a speed-16 drones, no ESG capacitors, Stinger-1s, and so forth.

The drones should not be hard to do
Stinger-1s should be real easy one.
No capacitor ESGs should be easy enough to do.

My assumption at the moment is that Middle Years will be enabled on a per ship basis (i.e. some weapons are Middle Years some are not) and doing it on a per ship basis allows for Middle Years vs. non-Middle Years battles.

I am, slowly but steadily, sending the FCB2MY ships to Paul. I think I am up to F207. I send one, or sometimes two, per day. There are 65 left, so perhaps in a couple of months, you'll have them all.

Paul:

It might be worth also bearing in mind the other rule changes in B2, such as the reduced arcs for Orion plasma torpedoes (and the unavailability of plasma-S for use) along with the lack of web snares and plasma carronades.

Actually, the web snare thing is an example of a system which will affect certain ships, depending on whether the same Ship Card is placed in a Middle Years setting or not. The Tholian POL might be published in B2, but it is eligible for use in the General War as-is... with the exception that a Tholian player will not be able to use the ship's web generators as snares in the Middle Years.

Indeed, current ships which can be used in the MY setting, such as the Web Patrol Corvette, cannot use snares in the middle years either.

Well, it's mostly up to the players to know the rules when playing on FCOL, isn't it? It's not up to FCOL for that.

F209 sent to Paul. (which means of course that F201-F208 were sent earlier.)

I am up to F216 in ships sent to Paul.

doing these is a multi-step process.

F217 is ready to send to Paul but I sent him four ships already today.

F218-F220 are in jpg form but I haven't resized them to 8 inches.

F221-F224 are in compacted form but not exported to JPG.

F225-F227 are in "stripped" form but not "compacted"

F228 has been "cloned" but not "stripped"

F229-F233 are "stripped"

F234 is "cloned"

F235-F236 are in jpgs

F237-F239 are "compacted"

F240 is "stripped"

F241-F272 are variously cloned, stripped, or compated

I take the original file and "clone it" into the FCOL file. Then I "strip" the stuff (power tracks, turn modes) that FCOL doesn't need. Then I rearrange what is left into "compact" form. Then I export that into a jpg, resize the jpg to eight inches, and then email it to Paul. I'm considerably ahead of schedule because these are kind of brainless fun to do.

Just sent Paul F217-F220.

F221-F224 are in JPG but not resized.
F225-F228 are stripped but not compacted.
F229-F234 are 50% stripped, 50% compacted
F235-F236 are ready to ship (but that would be out of order)
F237-F240 are compacted.
F241-F246 are 50% stripped, 50% compacted
F247-F272 are in various states of work
