Do the Kzinti's have a standard scout? Is it the scout frigate?
What is the abbreviation for it? SC? SF? FS? _________________ O.G. OPTIMUS

To add a bit more info, until the General War, the Scout Frigate was pretty much their standard scout. They, like the other powers, were still using scouts for their 'scouting' ability, and not as dedicated EW platforms. As scout frigates were vaporized and the Kzintis faced the monstrosity that is the D6S (and the possibly scarier in direct combat, D6D), they began deploying scouts on heavier hulls, giving the ships more channels, power, and most importantly, survivability. _________________ NOLI UMQUAM VIM TURBARUM STULTORUM DEPRETIARE.

AFAIK the scout frigate was the standard pre-General War, as Ravenhull mentions, then it was replaced by the war destroyer scout, and later the war cruiser scout, for electronic warfare support in major battles.
The scout-drone-frigate and war destroyer drone scout were used for drone raids, launching type-IIIXX cruise drones at targets millions of kilometers away. (Like the D6D too). I'm not sure about the scout carrier, but it probably used its special sensors to find targets for fighter raids, although I'm sure it could have supported fleets with its fighters and special sensors.
IIRC the Kzinti Super Space Control Ship Goliath also had special sensors, making it a "scout" under the rules. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue

Just to follow up on this:
I've found some references to an SC+ in a few scenarios. The graphic for them shows a frigate. The ship also doesn't have a name and instead has a number which is consistent with Kzinti frigate designations.
Do those mean the scout frigate? _________________ O.G. OPTIMUS

Paul... The SC+ is probably referencing a refitted Kzinti SF...
Or, it could be another example of pre-Jean lack of consistency from product to product and it actually should just be SF. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

You could not pay me enough to be the Captain of a Kzinti Scout Frigate. Too improtant to ignore. Too small to survive a hit, even at long range. I'd rather be stuck in a AAS. My chances of not getting shot at and killed are a lot higher! _________________ Check out my website at: http://www.jgray-sfb.com/

Amen Brother! Kzinti SF Captain (well, he's probably a lowly Commander, or possibly a LtC...) ranks right up there with Stinger pilot!!! _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Better yet is the SDF (Scout Drone Frigate). One of my all time favorite ships. This thing is really nothing more than a decoy in a full fleet battle, although one possibility for use is to launch as many drones as possible from it before it goes boom. Essentially you'd get 1, maybe 2 scatterpack equivalents worth out on the map just from its racks and as long as your other ships can transfer control to them when the SDF goes boom they can save their own scatterpacks for a later, more decisive point in the game.
Alternatively, make most of its drones with the ATG module.
At a squadron level battle, this thing could really shine. I know the DF was generally kept out of direct battle, I'm guessing the SDF was too, but a special mission SDF + 2 DF battle could be a lot of fun. |
