Another one of Dave Mihail's fantastic sculpts based on the Star Fleet Command game. The mini is the USS George Washington class, a great mini for a BCX. Tried a little something new with this. Every Fed mini I've ever done has looked shiny-new. I got to thinking about that. After years upon years of perputual war, "new" isn't the most realistic way for one to look. I didn't want battle-damage, though; just wear and tear. So, I went for this look and am pretty pleased with it. Enjoy.

very impressive mini, Mike. I really like the "been 'round the block a time or two" look.

Gorgeous, as-always Mike. I like how the shading really makes the aft shuttlebay and other features "pop". There's plastic-kit modelers working at 50 times this scale who don't get such a sense of scale.

Awesome job as always Mike. Got a link to a place where the rest of us mini nuts can buy one?

Thanks, guys! Been a long time since I did a Fed mini. Savedfromwhat, yeah, it's all acrylics. Just some Detla and Citadel, with some home-made washing and glazing.

Jeremy, Dave Mihail has a site called Scifi Skunkwerks where his minis are displayed, but I don't know if he's selling right now. Here's the site, though, if you wanna check it out.

You really do do cool work, Mike. Thanks for sharing.

Small point of correction. This one actually had nothing to do with SFC. I designed this based on what I felt would happen after the events of ST:TUC. In brief, the Washington class was meant to be a dedicated warship utilizing the current implementation of all well known and understood technology (no Excelsior tech, as they're still working the kinks out) and launched in... 2292... I think. All 13 ships of the class are named for America's 5-star (or equivalent) flag officers, with registry codes in chronological order. Politics being what it is, the first two ships were stripped down versions of what they were intended to be. After the loss of the Grant, the second ship of the class, the Washington was refit to original spec, along with all new construction ships. Several years later, the MacArthur, as new construction, was constructed including cutting edge technology. The remaining ships followed suit and surviving older ships were refit to it.

The version Mike has shown is the MacArthur pattern. Yes, each version actually looks different:

Grant
Washington
MacArthur

Mods, the links go to a photobucket page that does not have a link to any sort of storefront or way of getting to one.

Dave,

Thanks for the clarification! I knew there were two versions of this one; didn't know there were three. Either way, these are some sweet lookin' minis.

For those who haven't seen/bought any of these, they're resin. They're also some very GOOD resin; minimal flash, no air bubbles, no nasty mold release agents, etc. I've done maybe a half-dozen, and have always been impressed with the quality. I have another of these GW minis in the original configuration I haven't done yet; gotta get 'round to it at some point.

I've always like that Abbe class PT destroyer and made a crude SSD for it once upon a time. May have to see if I can find said SSD and acquire one of those minis.
