Having never used mini's in playing SFB or FC, how do you all handle stacking?

Unless we're demo'ing a game and want to show the actual components, we usually use our felt space mats with the 2 inch hexes. This helps with the stacking issues.

I also use custom stands for the small stuff, i.e. fighters, shuttles, drones, plasmas, etc. This will easily fit 3 to 4 to a regular FC large scale hex (1.25 inches) and even more on the 2" hexes we use.

Now, if it gets really congested, we have a 6 in plexi-glass hex that we use to represent the game board hex with all the units in it. We have enough room to place multiple units in hte same hex while maintaining proper orientation and firing arcs.

How are you going to base the PFs? I've had some for years and never found a good solution.

The best idea I've ever seen was someone - Xander Fulton, IIIRC; who used Babylon 5: A Call to Arms fighter bases for their PFs.
They are way out of print now, but if you've never seen them - they were standard 1.25 inch hex bases with a short pin at the apex of each corner. This made it easy to place 6 PFs on the same base... and if you just drilled the holes a bit and used stiff piano wire, you could make them removable.

I stumbled across these too late to obtain any, but I troll ebay for them regularly. If I ever run across some of the bases by them selves, I'll buy ten or twelve packs.

You shouldn't be nearly as concerned about the lack of footwear as to what else might be lacking while painting miniatures! Rolling Eyes

As far as stacking goes, my group keeps the 1-inch counters handy (we get the appropriate counter out at the same time we pick minis). If things get too close, we swap for counters until deconflicted.

When I re-do the foam in my cases, I'll be cutting a slit in each compartment, to allow that mini's associated counter to be right there with it (no more rummaging through the counters tacklebox).

It's not the first picture he's put up with that going on in the background. I think he does it on purpose, just to see if we'll notice. Some kind of extra-galactic Discovery Channel thing...

No... it comes from having more minis than work space...

"Galen! What is that thing doing to my ship?"

...sorry, wrong universe.

Currently, I'm painting some of Scoutdad's Pegasii. I've got some small rare earth magnets and I'm thinking of how to use them to make my Harrier PFs detatchable. Probably by glueing the magnets to the PFT's fins and a small piece of steel to the belly of each PF, trial (and, no doubt, error) awaits.

Hey Tony,

I have lots of those, how many do you want?? Mine are the plastic hex with six holes (not pins), but you are welcome to some. I just put our B5 fighters onto individual stands (helps to spread out the miniatures so I don't have to buy more flights).
Drop me a line and let me know how many you want (anything less than 25 or so).

Here's the latest item to be completed:

Kzinti Shuttlecraft on the move - one of these is a suicide shuttle, but which one??? Wink

And looking at all those shuttlecraft mini and drone minis got me thinking - which is always dangerous.
Here's the result of that brainstorming session:

Kzinti scatterpack on final approach Shocked

A couple more photos are posted on Photobucket...

That thing turned out awesome. Every Klingons worst day starts with one of those popping. Great job!

Narrow salvos at range 15... the SPs worst enemy.

I airbrushed another 15 Klingon ships, a SB, a BATS, a BS, 12 Z-Y's and 4 shuttles today.
I guess in all fairness, there will soon be a Klingon SP in my future... Cool

That look great.

An awful sight to behold behind another wave coming in from the ships.
