One of the first RPG products I worked on for ADB, Inc. was Planet Aldo. It has been released to e23.

http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=ADB8995

This is a 16-page sample of the PRIME DIRECTIVE Roleplaying Universe. It includes a fiction story, sample characters, weapons, and equipment, with data for both PD20 and GURPS.

I hope you enjoy it.

SVC wrote this on the BBS earlier today:

Got an email this morning from Steve Jackson, who has finished reading Jean's and John's GURPS FEDS book....

THREE total mis-spelled words.

One mis-placed apostrophe.

One place in the Federation Express article that says Federal Express.

He did note the spot on the first page that says "fill in publication date when approved".

The only bad news is that i may end up in a bidding war with Steve Jackson over which one of us gets to hire Jean.

He also notes that we're thinking May or June release (March/Apr on e23?).

As I posted on the BBS, I think as long as there is an ADB, I will be working with the people I like and care about, for the people I like and care about, and hanging out with you -- the fans I like and care about.

New on our storefront: Romulans PD20M. I know that I touched most of this book over the Christmas holidays. Tony Thomas and Jonathon Thompson worked hard on updating this book, too.

This will ship next week, mid-week.

Prime Directive PD20 Modern Supplement Early Bird PDF Now Available

Explore More Worlds! Discover More Species!

Find out about the Brecon, four-armed humanoids who live in the Federation. There are also Deians, who are extremely beautiful. Prellarians are masters of high-grav and null-grav technologies.

The Klingon Empire has more species: Yitlians who are fierce warriors and Zoolies who are highly perceptive and sought out for Klingon commando teams.

The Andromedan Invaders have more background and enough information that the GM can construct robots to confound players.

The Inter-Stellar Concordium is described more fully along with the five member species for players to play or encounter.

The Seltorian Tribunal has but one goal: exterminate the Tholians! To that goal, there are five types of Seltorians, two of which are suitable for players.

Jindarians are at home on their asteroid caravans. And then there are the Vudar. They are located between the Hydrans and the Klingons, part of the Klingon Empire, yet they run their own navy.

The Carnivons and Paravians are different as in they have a distinct extinction date - unless they don't! The Paravians died when a sun snake destroyed their sun; the Carnivons, when the Kzintis and Lyrans carried out genocide. What are the odds that a small group escaped detection? (Hint: 100%)

Included for your convenience are unified weapons charts with all the weapons included in the core rulebook and three sourcebooks. If you can't remember where you spotted something, the complete index might help with that.

Compatible with modern roleplaying systems using 20-sided dice. Requires the use of the Prime Directive PD20 Modern Core Rulebook. To fully use the weapons, the sourcebooks are highly recommended.

Compiled by Jean Sexton and the Prime Directive Staff

This is the Early Bird PDF Edition and the final version before the print edition is released in two weeks. We will be replacing this edition with the final PDF, including the back cover. We think this book is ready to go, but we aren't perfect and there may be a typo or two in this version that will be caught.

Hi everyone! A revised version of the Prime Directive PD20 Modern Supplement has been uploaded.

Back when I was working on it, we found out the Galactic Survey Cruiser USS Magellan had not yet been built when it supposedly discovered the Deians. We found the next candidate, the USS Darwin. Just recently Steven Petrick dug into those old Air Force tapes and found out there was a precursor to the Galactic Survey Cruiser, which we dubbed the Old Galactic Survey Cruiser. (Of course, when it was commissioned, it was called the Galactic Survey Cruiser.) The USS Magellan that contacted the Deians was that version of the Galactic Survey Cruiser. The confusion stemmed from the reuse of the name for the (new) Galactic Survey Cruiser.

Anyway, the PDF has been corrected.

GURPS Prime Directive 4e Is Revised and Available as a PDF

Currently this only available as a PDF. After we get reports and make any typo corrections, we will release it also in paper. This usually takes about three months.

What has changed? Well, the old 200-page book is now 365 pages long!!!! Because of its length, it is available as one big PDF or as two different volumes: Volume 1: Creating a Character and Volume 2: Playing the Game.

The story didn't change except for proofreading corrections.

Chapter 1: The empire information was moved to be with the species. There the information for the ISC was expanded.

Chapter 2: There is more GURPS information on creating a character and it is presented more along the lines of what GURPS players expect in the way of formatting and tables. Point values changed for Cygnans, Andorians, Ethnic Klingon warriors, Hilidarians, Kzintis, Gorns, Orions (the background information changed to be for the species, not what they did as for a job), Andromedan (no point change, but descriptions of the robots were enhanced), Ranel, Phelen, Veltressai (no point change, but background was greatly enhanced with two total paragraphs becoming seven), Q'Naabians (background corrected and enhanced with one paragraph becoming four), Pronhoulites (and background expanded from a paragraph to six), Rovillians (and background expanded from two paragraphs to seven), Korlivilar (and background expanded from one paragraph to three), Seltorian Queens (and background expanded from two paragraphs to four), Seltorian Sages, Seltorian Experts, Jindarians, Vudar, Paravians, and Carnivons. Height and weight table was added. Templates were corrected (Star Fleet Academy, Federation Marine Academy, Federation Marine Boot Camp, and Merchant Marine Academy) or added (Star Fleet Basic Training, Galactic Intelligence Agency Academy, Federation Marshals Service Academy, and "Shake and Bake School") The only one that was untouched was the Merchant Marine Basic Training.

Chapter 3: Advantages and Disadvantages reflect GURPS move away from classifying them by type. The chapter grew from 31 pages to 65.

Chapter 4: Skills. This section grew from 14 pages to 38. All skills mentioned in the templates are included. It also includes GURPS information about skills.

Chapter 5: How to Play. This section includes most of the rules you need to actually play the game. It expanded from 25 pages to 64. The section on Interspecies Medicine was moved to this chapter from Technology.

Chapter 6: End Game Awards. More GURPS information was added about developing the character. Medals were included with the text about them. Defender of Life was added.

Chapter 7: Technology. The list "Technology Availability by Empire" was greatly expanded from about half a column to over a column. The non-standard Technical Skill Specializations disappeared with the description of the technology now explaining what skill is needed to operate it. Shipboard equipment expanded from three pages to over seven. Weapons tables now look like GURPS tables and include weapons that adventurers might encounter that are more primitive.

Chapter 8: The Star Fleet Universe. Let's Play Federation Commander is added. Standard Planetary Classes now include Class T. Circle Trigon is now accurately placed on the Romulan-Gorn-ISC Neutral Zone. Using SFB for Space Combat is expanded to include Federation Commander. A short section titled Commercial Passenger Service was added.

Chapter 9: Space Combat actually has the GURPS statistics for and rules on fighting. Descriptions and stats for the standard large freighter, Free Trader, security skiff, Federation heavy cruiser, Klingon D7 battlecruiser, Romulan War Eagle, Kzinti command cruiser, Gorn Allosaurus Battlecruiser, Tholian patrol corvette, Orion Pirate light cruiser, and the standard administrative shuttlecraft are included. To help people visualize where things are on the ship, Federation Commander ship cards are used. A section on "Customized Civilian Ships" was added.

Chapter 10: The sample characters now have the skills they should and the point value has been adjusted accordingly.

The index now has an additional section that is titled SELECTED TABLES, MAPS, AND CHARTS that should be useful for players and GMs. Since the book is longer, the index is also longer.

Thank you for putting this together.
I have caught a couple of typos on page 325. You have GURPS Starships where it should be GURPS Spaceships.

I have concerns about space combat.
Chapter 9:
The GURPS Spaceships stats for the SFU ships are missing some details. These details are needed for damage allocation if you are using the Spaceships rules. See GURPS Spaceships, pp.5-6.
From the descriptions given, I won't be able to figure out where the systems are on given starship.

What are the movement ranges when the scale 10,000 miles/hex. and the time scale too? Some of us like to use the movement rules GURPS Spaceships 3, pp 24-36.

The answers will help.

Thanks again,

Tom Vallejos

For the record, I have invited Tom to email me with his thoughts. Since our ships can fight at warp speed, they don't play well with GURPS stats. Even a slow freighter would move over 100 10,000-mile hexes in one second. The ship cards are included in the description to let the GM visualize where systems are located. I wanted them to be able to decide what constitutes the middle of the ship.

GURPS Prime Directive 4e Revised

Long in coming, GURPS Prime Directive 4e has been revised. It is available as one massive PDF (over 360 pages) or broken down into two volumes: GURPS Prime Directive 4e Revised, Volume 1: Creating a Character and GURPS Prime Directive 4e Revised, Volume 2: Playing the Game. The set of books is powered by GURPS. (If purchasing the cheaper "combined volume" in print, you get a copy of each volume bound individually.)

Volume 1: Creating a Character has everything you need to create a character (equipment and weapons are in the second volume). Powered by GURPS, this book includes information about the species inhabiting the Alpha Octant of the Milky Way Galaxy, including "normal" height and weight ranges. Information about the species of the Inter-Stellar Concordium has been greatly expanded from the original edition. Academy templates are included for characters who are part of the Federation.

Also expanded are the lists of advantages, disadvantages, and skills found in GURPS. We have chosen the ones we feel are best suited for the Star Fleet Universe and think you can play with just these; however, more are included in GURPS Basic Set Characters. When we reference one of these advantages, disadvantages, or skills it will be clearly marked. (These are mostly references to magic and the supernatural which were omitted as not germane to the Star Fleet Universe.)

Volume 2: Playing the Game includes information that the GM needs to run the game along with information about both personal and ship weapons and equipment.

The opening chapter on how to play the game has been greatly expanded from the original book so that you have most of the rules you need to play at your fingertips. The chapter on how to play the game has also been expanded so that you have most of the rules you need to play at your fingertips. "End Game Rewards" now includes information on how to better skills, add advantages, or buy off disadvantages. It also has information on medals and honors (and perhaps promotions!) to be awarded by a grateful Star Fleet to successful characters.

The section on technology has been expanded to include information on so many inventions that various empires have developed. You can explore from Jindarian anti-transporter fields to Tholian webs. Personal equipment runs the gamut from air masks to zero-G worksuits. Charts for weapons have been expanded to include weapons that more primitive societies might use, as well as weapons you would find in the Star Fleet Universe.

There is plenty of background information on the Star Fleet Universe including how fast you can travel, interesting spots to visit, and how to use your characters in battle if you play Star Fleet Battles or Federation Commander. The deck plans for a Free Trader ship are included so that if your characters are independent operators, you can visualize the ship they most likely use. Want to know what happened when? Check out the extensive timeline.

New to this book is the chapter on space combat. The ships of the Star Fleet Universe were designed to interact with each other via the Star Fleet Battles or Federation Commander rules. However, we realize some GMs may prefer to use the native GURPS system for starship combat. To do that, you will need GURPS Spaceships (4e) and may also want to have GURPS Space (4e) available as the rules reference those two books. Descriptions and stats for the standard large freighter, Free Trader, security skiff, Federation heavy cruiser, Klingon D7 battlecruiser, Romulan War Eagle, Kzinti command cruiser, Gorn Allosaurus battlecruiser, Tholian patrol corvette, Orion Pirate light cruiser, and the standard administrative shuttlecraft are included.

Finally, the story "Rescue on Roon" has an adventure to play. Included are sample characters that can be used.

Each individual volume includes an index to both Volume 1 and Volume 2, along with an index to charts and tables that are frequently used.

GURPS Federation Is Available

The galactic good guys have a book dedicated to them and the United Federation of Planets. With background on the history, politics, and culture, you will have everything you need to play campaigns set during any time period. Want to be part of a budding colony? There is information about the process of colonization.

There is a new template for an experienced Federation Marshal so that players have something to worry about should they break the law. Two armored vehicles are presented with statistics to help you play them with the GURPS vehicles rules you are familiar with.

There are more species: Antareans, Fralli (with their racial skill of Sparking), and Mantorese. And there are detailed surveys of the planets where the best known species in the Federation reside.

Discover more about the Federation military (Star Fleet and Marines), Star Fleet organization, and the Federation Express.

Even more personal weapons are now available, including the Fralli pole-whip.

Read about even more Federation ships including the deck plans for the Federation Burke-class frigate.

Of interest are the story and its sample characters, adventure hooks, and the Donjebruche Trading Post, a perfect spot for roving adventurers to explore.

This is a revision of the 2010 book, updating it to the information presented in the 2020 GURPS Prime Directive volumes. If you purchased the original volume as a PDF through Warehouse 23, the revision is already in your library.

You will need GURPS Prime Directive volumes 1 and 2 to effectively use this book.
