I also agree that it should be 1d6 for shuttle hits always (both offensive and defensive). I would be interested to learn the reasoning behind the decision to make them different.

My assumption about adds killing shuttles that have impacted is bookkeeping -- if you shoot and don't kill it -- you have to maintain a running total on damage -- |

true, but we were prepared to keep track of that damage before the latest version of the rules, when we'd just be shooting at shuttles with our phasers. |
