So all 'base' activity is around bases comprised of only those modules, there are no other (less military) style of bases like the home powers have?

The Andromedans managed to conquer the Iridani Cluster, too; although they only held it for a few years before the Grand Quest liberated it. There's not much data on how the locals were treated by the occupiers, though.

Ironically, two of the most common ship classes used by the Iridani Questors are also called Galleons and Caravels...

Oh, and speaking of the LMC, the Andros, for some reason, had a real issue with the local Uthiki species; rather than attempt to occupy their systems (as they did with other conquered parts of the LMC) they bombarded their gas-giant colonies relentlessly, made a point of hunting down every last Uthiki ship they could find, and left the species on the brink of extinction by the time of Operation Unity. No-one knows exactly why the Andromedans had such a beef with the poor squids, though.

The other notable area of medium-term occupation we know of for the Andromedans was the Ryn Nebula, deep in the Omega Octant; but the locals had abandoned the place by the time the Andros moved in, and the main advantage this resource-poor region held for the invaders was the thick Nebula Wall which they could build a stronghold behind.

Which all gets back to my two main points:

1) With notable exceptions, which are primary notable due to being exceptions, the Andromedans do not engage in genocide. They thoroughly destroy resistance, but do not appear to eradicate all life (or sentient life) as a policy.

2) Despite any strongholds or temporary holdings, we have no idea at all how Andromedans run an empire. We have no idea how they treat subject species. We have no idea how they act outside what we have been shown during their attempt at conquest. We have some hints, but they could be misleading or event outright false hints. We just don't know.

They did have one huge purpose-built starbase in the Lesser Magellanic Cloud, the Desecrator. It was eventually located and destroyed by the Galactic Powers in Operation Unity.

Otherwise, they had lots of various ground installations, but I don't know of any equivalent of, say, a SAMS.

They actually built three, according to the Magellanic timeline.

The first went live in 2545, the year before the Andromedans launched their first wave of invasion against the LMC empires. It was destroyed by a joint Baduvai-Eneen-Maghadim operation in 2554... two years too late to cut the intergalactic RTN link, sadly.

The second Desecrator was operational in 2552, but it took the LMC allies almost a decade to uncover it (due to heavily disrupted survey and intelligence units on their part). It was attacked in 2563, but the three approaching fleets suffered a severe (and worse, self-inflicted) setback in the execution of the assault. Still, they managed to cripple the starbase; for reasons unknown, the Andromedans only repaired it in 2600, when they decided to use it to start building the never-completed Devastator Battleship.

The third, and final, Desecrator in the LMC entered service in 2558; this was the main link to the Andromeda Galaxy by the time of Operation Unity.

(Also, according to the Omega timeline, the Andros were trying to build yet another Desecrator in the Iridani Cluster, but were defested in the Grand Quest before it could be completed. However, whether it really was a starbase, or merely some other kind of base, is as yet unclear.)

I hope the Andromedans are never fully explained and kept as are.

Mysterious, forebodingly powerful and terrifyingly alien.

Perfect.

The Borg were completely ruined for me once that nonsense of a queen and all the garbage in Voyager was aired...they were no longer ominous and doing what they did for their own (and unknown) reasons.

Just another race to be outsmarted by the latest gimmick of the week. Rolling Eyes

BLECH.

Think of it this way. Before WW2, you could send a tourist to Nazi Germany and have him buy books, atlases, travel guides, and engineering textbooks. Some secrets remain, but nothing is really a mystery.

Aliens, on the other hand, you don't know ANYTHING about how they think or act. You don't have any peacetime travel guides for the M31 Galaxy.

To re-iterate, I wasn't after cultural or other info, or info on their empire, or their galaxy. I was after stuff that should be 'known' because it has happened - what sort of activities have andros been engaged in that have seen (or could have seen) 'hostile encounters' during their invasion.

We presumably know whether they or not they are likely to run convoys/escorts in the same way that galactic powers do - if they have been encountered them then the answer is cleary yes they do, if they have never been encountered then probably not.

Same with the sort of bases they have had. Have any platforms like commerce platforms or FRDs been encountered.

Same with mining, by the end of andro war presemably the home powers had worked out how the andros mined - in fact re-reading the FC blurb it says that the first encounters were with Intruders that were mining - that seems to hint that the ships themselves perform mining operations, rather than static mining bases.

etc etc.

I'm not after removing any mystery about andros motives etc, just finding some of the info that those like me who were not that into SFB for the last 30 years may have missed, that would facilitate coming up with some andro'y' style scenarios for a home brew campaign.

Lee, they never appeared to be any Civilian Activity by the Andromedans. Yes their Mother Ships seem to take on a variety of roles kind of like Mobile Bases that used specialty built Satellite Ships to perform missions like Mining, Ground Assaults, or bringing sections of their bases to locations to set up RTN Nodes. There was never, as far as I can recall, any type of a Commercial Platform or System Activities Station. If any thing like this occurred it was usually some kind of a Ground Base from SFB. Andromedans have been known to conduct Search and Rescue Missions for Orphaned Satellite Ships when a Mother Ship was destroyed. The only Bases that they had were the 3 Section or 4 Section based and of course the the Desecrators. By enlarge the Andromedians are the Interstellar Boggy man that no one really knows what they do or why they do it. The only constant was they continuously assaulted any form of organized resistance they encountered.

The first encounter (in Alpha) with the Andros in SFB is not the same as that in the blurb from War and Peace; a discrapancy I personally find unfortunate.

The "real" event, published as a story (with a related scenario) in Captain's Log #25 (the first issue I ever picked up, indidentally) has a Federation DDL, a Klingon F5 squadron and an Orion salvage cruiser each descend upon the site of a recently-destroyed Federation POL... only for them to be forced to co-operate against the Intruder which killed it.

If you want to get an idea for the kind of ground bases, defsats and support ships the Andromedans are known to use in the Milky Way and LMC, SFB Module C3 is as good a place as any to get started.

A few ships were mentioned earlier as possible booster material, any chance of seeing one of these less combat oriented ships in Communique please.
