What's the correct procedure for working out firing arcs for two ships in the same hex ? Do you use the hex sides they enter from to work out the orientation of the ships (similar to the rules for firing seeking weapons in the same hex) or something else ? |

Almost.
You determine facing and arc as if the last ship to enter the hex were in it's previous hex.
If they entered at the same time (same speed and turn mode) "move" them both back to determine the facing.

Thanks for that, wasn't too far off then.
Didn't really matter that much for that game at any rate, more for future reference. Four Phaser-1s and a Plasma-R fired point blank into a FDW are going to kill it whichever shield it hits |

Was the R launched or bolted?

There is a nice illustration of the various same-hex combat situations available in the Commanders Circle:

Click on resources... plau aids... same hex combat.

It does, thanks for pointing it out. Have to have a bit of a trawl through that section of the site when I've time, some useful stuff there.
BTW Duxvolantis, 'twas indeed launched. He was coming up on my War Eagle from behind and didn't expect me to risk pulling a second HET as I decloaked. Should've guessed I wasn't going to load up a torpedo I couldn't hold and not use it |
