Nope.
Drones are drones.
In keeping with the "nothing is secret" and "reduce the bookkeeping" emphasis of FC, all drones are "Type 1" (4 to destroy, 12 dmg).
They do vary in speed. _________________ Dux Volantis

There are a couple of heavier drone-like weapons out there, however; such as the Shriek missiles for Juggernaut Beta, and the Maesron tachyon missiles in the Omega playtest pack. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

There was a brief appearance of "heavy drones" for in-store competitions in the US when the game was launched, but they were never carried over to the main game - I guess they might be a BoM item. In SFB terms a heavy drone took 6 points of damage to destroy, caused 24 damage but took up 2 spaces in the drone rack. A single hit by an ADD would still destroy it in the defensive fire phase. I guess there's nothing to stop you using that in your game as long as your opponent agrees, but as he's going to know which drone is the heavy one, guess where he's going to concentrate his defensive fire. _________________ Nothing is quite as persuasive as a disruptor pistol on slow burn and a rotisserie...... |

I have mentioned heavy drones as possible BoM before, but, as you can see, Steve isn't terribly enamoured of the idea. So, don't plan on seeing it anytime soon. _________________

I *really really* liked all the clever drones in SFB.
Having a scatter pack open with 5 drones instead of 6 with 1 HVY, 2 armored and 2 normal immediately made dealing with that pack of drones much more difficult.
But I think they made for a completely different game than FC. _________________ Dux Volantis

Well, Stupid Drone Tricks, in the Federation Commander system, would take an extreme hit as they often depend on deception to work. The whole idea of showing the five drones instead of six is to put confusion in the mind of the opponent as to what exactly they are facing. But in Federation Commander, there is no mystery. Even if there were multiple drone types, there will be no mystery, as every drone's type will be known, and every target is known. _________________

And there was a scatter pack in those bonus cards as well.
This is too funny! _________________ Mike

If you want to use heavy drones, this is what the rules would be:
- Take 6 damage to destroy, instead of 4.
- Do 24 points of damage if they reach their target.
- Require two "boxes" in the drone rack. (A normal drone rack can carry two heavy drones, or one heavy and two normal drones. A Fed rack could carry a single heavy drone, plus the four ADD rounds.)
- Uses a single "control channel".
- Still destroyed by a single successful ADD hit.
And that is about it. _________________
