Is there a book that contains a more in depth history than the call to arms rulebook? Looking forward to learning more and maybe expanding into other games available over here.

The Prime Directive RPG books (available in D20Modern and GURPS versions) have a pretty good bit of background info. Also, in the online resources is a history of The General War, which was the SFU equivalent of WWII.

The ADB website is chock full of SFU historical goodies. Just hit the site index here:
http://www.starfleetgames.com/masterindex.shtml
and start clicking away.

Welcome aboard.
We're always gladto get new converts and are happy to explain and expound on the SFU (in fact, that's what gets us in the most trouble... our garrulousness).

Donovan and Will have gotten you off to a good start, but here are afew more:
Go to the Fed Commhome page and click on the About The Universe link in the upper left corner of the page. This gives a great overview of the SFU.
Next, check out History of the General War. This gives a concise run down of the General War.
After that, check out this page: Historical downloads. This one is chock full of valuable info.

Than after all that, we're more than willing to answer any specific questions you may have.

And for even more fun, try First Missions. This is a free download of the basic Federation Commander rules and ship cards for the Klingon D7 and the Federation Heavy Cruiser. Just enough to whet your appetite.

Thanks for the help. I gotta get the changes from B5 to the SFU version down and get some more players interested before I branch out to new systems. We have 3 players including me here in the Birmingham, AL area gearing up to go that I know of. I was kinda hoping that this post would get me in touch with some SFU people from the central Alabama area we could bring into our little group to help us grow. So if you meet those qualifications, hint, hint.

Not sure which way I would like to branch out to next. Federation and Empire has kinda been speaking to me but I do hear the call of FedComm also. Kinda scared of SFB. Smile

Well, not in B'ham but only 2.5 hours north and we have over 2 dozen SFU players here. We've also got 10 ACTA: SF play testers, so anytime you feel like a road trip, let us know - I'm sure we can accomodate you.

I'm also considering a ACTA: SF tournament at NashCon this year (Memorial Day weekend - exit 69, I-65 north, Franklin TN) in case that might interest you.

Also, you might want to check outthe Commanders Circle for local players.
Go to the Federation COmmander home page, Click the Commanders Circle button, register, then click find players. Search by state and you'll find 11 players in Alabama - including one in Birmingham.
You might also search TN and GA. I know there are some of us in the southern portion of TN that are as close to you and they are to me.

I should have read this post more thoroughly.
One of our group is F.E.A.R. (F&E Answer guy), one of our group is coding F&E Online, and there are about 5 or 6 other F&E players in our group. We can certainly help you with that.

Fed Comm is our specialty. So we can help you there as well.

SFB - nothing to be scared of. Sure the rule book is intimidating, but you really only need 20 to 25 pages of rules for any single game. If you're playing Fed versus Klingon, you really dont need to worry about Plasma Torpedoes, Fusion Beams, ESGs, or Andromedans.
We have ahuge game scheduled for Saturday January 28th. There will be guys driving in from North Carolina, maybe GA, and at least 10 or so locals. If you want to drive up, you're more than welcome to join in or just sit in and kibitz.

Scott Burleson is the one from our group working on F&EOL.
As for gettign in touch with him...
He's not a forum member but is on the BBS. Check there under the F&E Online topic. Look for a post from theburl. His current email address is in his profile.

I think you got plastered well enough. Do you normally post info on Nashcon. We don't really have any really large Cons here in St. Louis, the largest is Die Con. Nashville isn't that far.

If we can get more to NashCon I can get myself and my sone there also. Maybe enough for a FedCom or ACTA:SF tournament? Or, both?

Typically, no.
But wit hthe release of ACTA: SF and the lack of Origins - I need a local con to go to.
I intend to contact them about a ACTA: SF tourney. I'll post more info as it becomes available.
