Well, it had to happen. I just managed to kill one of my Romulans.

I've dropped the Starline 2500s, klinked them together, packaged and shipped them, played games with over-exuberent 12 year olds and nothing has so uch as dinged a single miniature. Cool

Today however; I ran out of Zip-Kicer so I wentot the hobby store to get more. While unpacking the bag, I reached over the desk to put the can on teh shelf and it happened! The can of zip-kicker fell throug ha hole iont eh bag and smashed one of the KRs I was painting. Shocked

The neck snapped right behind the bridge bubble.
Twelve other miniatures went skittering acroos the desk and off onto the floor Surprised, but that was the only one to break.

Will post photos of the damge later... as well as a shot of the repair and a write-up of how easy the repair was.

T

Finally got around to uploading the photos.

Here's the poor thing, in two pieces sitting there on the bench awaiting repairs...

After looking at the break more closely, I found that there was an air bubble in the resin located exactly at the fracture point. Never would have known it if the mini hadn't broken.
I wonder how many more of them contain similar voids?

I drilled out both pieces of the boom and added a wire pin to reinforce the joint:

Then used a bit of gap filling CA adhesive to complete the repair.

When I paint my next batch o'Romulans, I'll sand the joint and touch up the paint.

So the Romulans redesigned where they wanted to separate the boom Smile

Smaller boom section means it's easier to use sub-light evasion! Wink

Nice recovery! That's a nice looking Romulan Cruiser.

Thanks.
I still have lots of details to add, but it's on the downhill slope now.

The repair was rather easy.
With ST2400s, I would have had to use the Dremel to drill a hole that deep. With the ST2500s I used a hand-held pin vise and got the holes drilled in less than 5 minutes.

That wasn't an air-bubble. That was a thoughtfully-provided pre-molded drill pilot-hole. Razz
