I'm hoping that the Devastator Battleship could be used to highlight a second Andro ePack someday... or perhaps even its alternate universe sibling, the Devourer!

(Bases-wise, the two main Andro units we are missing in FC at the moment are the Base Station and Desecrator Starbase.)

The ISC have a number of ships that could go into a second ePack, too; such as the various "war" classes built in the Concordium proper (HCW, CW, DW) and the "system" ships converted out in the semi-isolated cantonments during the Invasion (NCA/NCS, NDD, NFF).

There has been discussion of a SCOUTS MOVE OUT product in 2013 or 2014 with two or three scouts for every empire. Not sure of marketability. We might consider doing this on Kickstarter. We'd need at least 100 orders.

UPDATED FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. X-SHIPS: This is an element of SFB. They're much more powerful "next generation" ships. They have more power, thicker shields, and pages of "special exceptions to the normal rules." A couple of people have tried to translate SFB X-ship rules in FC and I didn't like any of the attempts. I will do these myself, but not anytime soon.

2. REQUESTING SHIPS: Post your requests and I will put them into the master list. At the current rate, the master list will take two years to do, but I don't do them in the order they come in, and we're looking into various ways to do laminated cards (ie., various product formats). Now, an SFB ship you just wanted ported over is fairly easy (although ships destined for Borders of Madness are very low on my priority list). An entirely new ship is something you have to get Petrick to approve for SFB and Chuck Strong to approve for F&E first. Many of you ask for "A ship of a given empire between X and Y points" and that depends on the status. If there's an SFB ship that fits, fine, if there isn't, you're asking for a new ship to be invented, and if SFB didn't see a need for it for 20+ years, good luck getting it approved. Now, there are exceptions even to that. The Feds didn't do a lot of plasma-armed ships, but it would be SOOOO easy for me to do a PDF ePack of Fed plasma variants.

3. BOMBERS: These are "really really great honking big fighters" in SFB. As we haven't gotten fighters into SFB yet, I wouldn't expect bombers anytime soon.

4. HOW ARE ePACKS SCHEDULED? Back in 2011, I tried to do one per week. I go through the empires in the order they're in the SFB rulebook. When I do one, I select the six ships via my ouija board. Sometimes I want to select similar ships (Lyran catamarans vs trimarans, Romulan Eagles vs Kestrels) and I usually want to include one or two "new" ships (i.e., ships not available as laminated cards). They didn't sell very well (frankly, they did not pay for the SVC time to create them) and we're not sure where we're going with this in future.

QUESTION: "I was under the impression that the Constellation class had only 2 photons and 12-point warp engines, but was otherwise the same as a Middle Years CA."
ANSWER: That is an "early years" ship and would mean doing an entire "early years product" for the ship to make any sense. We may do that, but not before Origins.

QUESTION: "Can I request a Demonhawk?"
ANSWER: As long as you realize you get the stock combat model, not 27 ship cards with various SFB-based modular options. Also remember, Demonhawk wasn't actually built, it was a proposed design and the Romulans decided not to build it.

QUESTION: Can you sell a sheet of counters providing enough extra turn and slip markers so that every empire has its own set of #1-#12?
ANSWER: No, because it would be expensive to produce and very few people would buy it. (Most players are perfectly happy using Fed Turn/Slip markers for the Kzintis and a Kzinti-vs-Lyran battle.) We can (and have) filled up empty space on half-inch countersheets with such things (up to a point as most players now consider extra turn/slip markers to be wasted space we could use for something more useful) but only up to a point. We could (just send a customer request email) do a PDF that you can print out for yourself.

RESPONSES TO VARIOUS REQUESTS:
If it's on the list, no need to ask for it again.

More ISC ships, particularly escort ships, scout, tug, and other special-mission variants.
ANSWER: those are mostly BoM ships, and fairly low on the priority list, but we might slip in one or two of them sometime.

Federation DE and FFE.
Those are carrier escorts that (under SFB rules) cannot be mixed into fleets, but we might do one sometime. There is a significant problem with all carrier escorts. If we do them in ePacks, they have to be with their carriers, or the carriers won't work, which means they cannot be done until carriers are done,.... (Now, they could be in communique, but you're talking LTLR (Low Toner Low Res). We all know that you guys want to mis-used the Fed DD/FFE as attack ships because of their gatlings, which the SFB rules do not allow.

Andro Terminator
Maulers are borders of madness. We don't even have a finished set of mauler rules yet, so that isn't a high priority, but it's on the list.

Federation DDF
It was in communique #50 about a year ago.

Middle Years Kzinti DD
The Kzintis did not build DDs until after the Middle Years so no such ship actually exists.

Large & small troop transports
In Communique 61 and 62.

MORE REPLIES TO REQUESTS FOR SHIPS
======
Pinboy, Feb 2011: Private Armed Security vessels
Answer: We have done the armed priority transport, armed cutter, prime corvette.
=====
Pinboy, Feb 2011: more civilian cargo vessels such as bulk liquid carriers
Answer: Identical to freighters.
=====
Pinboy, Feb 2011: , cruise ships

=====
Pinboy, Feb 2011: private yachts.
Answer: Use a free trader.
=====
Someone, 2011: I am sorry that my request missed the cut.
Answer: In your case, it did not miss the cut as the thing you saw was the master list of every requested ship, and your request just got lost and was later added. When you see a list of specific ships for a specific product, THEN you missed (or made) the cut.
=====
Wolverine, April 2011: I want a Fed CB
Answer: We did that in Comm 71.
=====
Someone, 2011: I am confused by conjectural and the various such terms. I thought FC did not care about what was a real ship and what was not?
Answer: It depends. In theory, we could eventually do every SFB ship for FC. As a practical matter, not that many people would pay for the less useful ones. There is a difference between unbuilt variant (could have been built) and conjectural (nobody ever thought of this except the game designer) and Impossible (but if it were possible it would look like this) and a bad guess someone made (a ship the putative owner never dreamed of, but their enemy feared they might built) and deception (a ship nobody ever planned to build but they tried to scare the enemy by making them think they were going to). FC would likely do the unbuilt variants long before the others, and might never do the bad guesses.
There are also unique cases like the Klingon Z-3 fighter. (The built eight of these and wrecked four of them before they conceeded that the thing was so unstable only one pilot could fly them. He, however, was so good they sent him and the last four to the Kzinti front. He managed to wreck all four of them in a month, but shot down 34 Kzinti fighters in the process. The Federation and Kzintis were horrified as they had no fighter able to dogfight a Z-3 and survive (let alone win) but the fighters just disappeared and no one knew (until the war was over) what the heck had happened. The pilot was on his way to the capital to be made a Hero of the Klingon Empire when he was killed in a duel over the affections of a lady. Go figure.
=====
Can I have an F5S?
Can I have an ISC Blockade Runner?
Both are in Communique 77.
=====
Can I have a Klingon D7W CCH?
It is scheduled for Comm 78 or 79.

This topic is a general request for ships. Some will go into laminated cards (in real products) but this is tough due to the minimum print run. Worse, we only do one new product a year (if that) and it has at most 30 or 40 cards.
Others will have to be content with their request going into Communique (downloadable low-toner versions) which prints about 20-24 new ships per year.
Captains Log prints 8 new ships per year, usually in some kind of themed set. We may turn these into an ePack in future because it is hard to use the printed copies in Captains Log.
======
Question: Do you get a ribbon if your scenario ends up in a PDF pack?
Answer: Ya know, I had not thought about it, but you should. I am not really sure how to manage that. I do not really want to give a ribbon for each ePack, but maybe we could give one for the year.
======
Mojo Jojo, June 2011: I want ships that fill annoying gaps in BPV for various empires. The biggest one is the gap from 92-150 pts for ISC. Gorns could use something between 122 and 160 pts. Andromedans have many gaps. Many empires can use something in the 110-115 pt range.
ANSWER: This confounds and confuses ADB because SFB players never asked for ships of a specific point value and we cannot really figure out why FC players want them. This gets tricky because we do not (99 percent of the time) create new ships for FC but simply port over SFB ships, and SFB does not always have a convenient ship in that gap (because SFB players never asked for ships that way). We really are not in the business of inventing new ships just to fill specific number gaps. (The way the universe works, ships are built for missions, not to hit a specific cost.) Some fleets are specifically geared to have a high-low mix, the ISC being the first among these. (Their entire fleet is built around the idea of very expensive ships hiding behind walls of very cheap ships. They just do not build middle-cost ships.) We will look into these specific cases, but you are going to need to request specifics. Saying many empires need a ship is something we cannot process. Saying that the Klingons need a ship between the XX points of the YY and the AA points of the BB is at least enough information we can go look at the SFB master ship chart. (Problem there is it may turn out that the only ship in that range is a unique variant that comes with a whole list of deployment restrictions and other problems. The ISC war-class ships, for example, are all built for low-power high-weapons and just do not work in most battles because they cannot use Baseline Speed 24. They were designed for a specific campaign that SFB has that FC does not really reflect.] This reminds me of the Andro tournament ship in SFB. It is the Krait, a ship that does not exist outside of the tournament, and was needed because no Andro ship worked in the tournament.

Answer: Already in the game, see Q-ship.

It should be obvious that this file got a LOT shorter.

I cleaned it out, compiling requests into the master list of ships wanted.

If your post got deleted, it wasn't personal, wasn't rude, and wasn't disciplnary. Your post got compilled into the master request list of the master reply post.

As it happens, one SFB player I know from another board mentioned being a fan of Module R12's GryphonHawk Medium Cruiser for just that reason; its position point-wise between the SparrowHawk and FireHawk makes it a somewhat more evenly-placed ship to pick up and use in duels against most Alpha Octant empires' refitted CAs or NCAs. (A niche it might also fill in FC one day, perhaps?)

In FC, it seems that the main reason for such gap-filling ships would be to add more variety in tournament play; perhaps to help round out forces with uneven point totals, or just to make more squadron formations available for players to try out.

In the case of the ISC, the "vanilla" HDD currently listed may help a little in that regard, since it is somewhat cheaper than the CL. (As might the HCW, since it offers a little wiggle room points-wise between the CL and CA. Although, it might have to wait for the other heavy war cruisers to be done.)

The pre-war Vudar hulls would be usable in the Middle Years setting presented in Briefing #2.

The reason this request doesn't happen in SFB is because it flat out isn't needed. With transporter bombs, stupid drone tricks, additional boarding parties, commando units, prime teams, refits, additional equipment (e.g. UIM), drogues, special shuttles, and Lord knows what else, you are able to use every single point allowed with ease. So, if you have a 450 point squadron fight, you can be completely sure that you will have two forces at exactly 450 points present. This is completely guaranteed.

In Federation Commander none of that crap exists. A ship's Point Value is a ship's Point Value and that's it. So, even when given the freedom to pick three or four ships for a specific point value, most empires just can't do it down to that point. Some empires are forced to leave 4-8% of their allotted points on the table just because the needed combination flat out does not exist. So, if you have a 450 point squadron fight, you are likely to see something like a 445 point force squaring off against a 427 point force just because that's the best each side can do with the point total given.

So, unless a different way is found in Federation Commander to figure out how to construct fleets outside Point Value, those glaring "points gaps" are going to continue to be a problem.

I apologize that I have failed to explain this properly before.

Svc: so if i understand you correctly the Paravian GW ships from CL-28/SSJ would not be "acceptable" for use because of their "SSJ" status.

Has anyone tried something along these lines yet (example: so bob lets say 350 points +/- 5% for todays game) or (hey marv, how about we say 335 points to 365 points today).

Sorry i know this is not the place for this but the point gap issue keeps rearing its head.

So has anyone tried this yet ?

This confounds and confuses ADB because SFB players never asked for ships of a specific point value and we cannot really figure out why FC players want them.

What Mike West said.

Well over half of the FedCom games I've played were "pick up" games, targeting specific point values. Not having an available ship to use up points is just frustrating.

Do the points get washed out in victory point calculation? Sure, if you're actually investing the time to count that stuff.

However, that's something that tended to get ignored in a basic "pick some ships, blow stuff up" games. The guy with the more intact ships won; nobody ever went back to check and see if player-X should actually be credited 30 VP, etc. That kind of crunch smells of SFB and was the kind of thing my group tended to want to avoid (especially as it involved tracking damage during the game).

The guy short 6% of his points was just going to fight at a disadvantage that wouldn't get addressed. Might not lose if he's good; almost certain to lose if he's still learning.

As Mike noted, none of the Commander's Options stupid pet tricks exist in FedCom (thankfully). But there is no other mechanism to even discrepancies out.

This isn't an "every game" problem and doesn't require gnashing of teeth like some previous issues did, but a few key "fill the hole, not the role" ships unique to FedCom would be appreciated.

I know that "Gorn hole" got me at least once. I think I took an Armed Cutter to fill the gap (it's been years, I don't remember); I'd have preferred a beefier version of one of the real warships.

Funny, this is how our group often plays.

Players divide up, everyone agrees on a BPV then we start trying to fill up each side until we're close. We'll usually limit to one DN per side, rarely if ever a BB, only if someone really wants to play it and there's one fewer players on that side.

Half the fun is shopping ships.

Having been unconfounded, we're looking into this and have a gorn ship and an ISC ship on my clipboard.
