What Happened to the Federation Dreadnought?
It seriously deviates from the Franz Joseph design!
I think I would have to cut up a Starline 2400 DN and fix the front and back of the secondary hull. |

The DN that is in the Mongoose products right now is based on the DNG model - the later and improved version from the time of the General War. This one has the straight-out engines rather than the angled ones and has a more traditional secondary hull (shuttlebay aft only and no rear deflector dish).
I believe there are plans to eventually have the Franz-Joseph designs in the 2500 line, but because of marketing/licensing issues all of the FJ designs would have to be in the same package not mixed in with other non-FJ ships. _________________ Let's get DANGEROUS!

Like Darkwing said.
The Starline2500 minis line is structured to match the existing Federation Commander box-sets. Since the FC box-sets featured the DNG (and not the original Franz Joesph DN), that's what came out the gate first.
There are several reasons the DNG is what was in FC first, the main one being that it's just a much better gameplay ship, having fixed all the DN's flaws.
When the Franz Josepg ships do get re-done for SL2500 (and I hope they do), I'll certainly buy one, but I doubt a FJ DN would ever be much more than a display piece for me. Heavy cruiser gunnery on a hull with DN movement and costs is not as much fun to play. _________________
