Hi !
Does someone know how the feds can win this scenario ? After two tries with the base version (hold 7 turns), the feds where or destroyed or get accidentally out of the 25 hex radius of the planet.
Thanks _________________ http://space-brazouck.over-blog.com/ |

To be honest I'm not sure the Feds can ever win this one. My own personal opinion is that this is a Federation training scenario on how to die with honour _________________

I think this is one of those scenarios you play twice, once from each side to see who did best. |

I played this scenario at the first Federation Commander tournament at Origins in 2006.
This game is basically the Fed Com Kobayashi Maru scenario. I lasted 5 turns. Back the there was no provision for self destruction, and Klingon Marines had boarded the Hood, with more on the way to capture it.
I was crippled, and the Klingon cruisers were closing in. Four shields were down. I managed to get myself destroyed by repairing 1 shield box on any down shield. THis forced the Klingon to fire at me to beam over his troops. I was hoping he would do just enough damage to finish me off. It worked and I blew up rather than being captured.
As it turned out I had done better than the others who had played the Hood. Its a fun scenario but requires you to think differently and play for time. I did not fire a single shot at an enemy ship.
The details are in Captains Log 34, page 42 Battle 3: The Mighty Hood Goes Down. _________________ Once again I have proven that even in the future, your photon torpedoes are built by the lowest bidder.

And one of the few cases where not being able to do a saucer separation in FC has a drawback; it makes setting up the later Return of the Hood scenario a bit trickier than it was in SFB... _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

I'm with Patrick.
We've played it several times and we always play... then swap sides and play again. The winner is the player who lasts longest as the Hood. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

I bet it sometimes goes to not only number of turns, but number of impulses survived as well _________________

aww thanks, perhaps obtaining the draw with destroying a klingon is the easier to do so. _________________ http://space-brazouck.over-blog.com/ |

Well, if you wanted to make it more of a challenge for the Klingons (but not much more of one), then require the Klingons to capture the Hood. Any result but a capture is a loss for the Klingons. To make it more difficult, then say that the Klingons not only have to capture it, but cannot cripple it in the process. So, even if they capture a crippled Hood, they still lose. To make it actually difficult, require that the Hood not be crippled, and none of the Klingon ships can be crippled in the capture. That would be pretty hard. _________________

Well at least taking a Klink down with you has to be a bonus; a moral victory at least. _________________

For scenarios like this, you have to remember that there will be the historical result (Hood lost, except the saucer escaped un-beknownst to the Klingons, and returns years later) and what happens when all the different players play the scenario! This applies to all historical scenarios.
I wonder if it's actually possible to escape with the Hood? Has anyone come close?

Vix and I are planning on playing this on SFBOL soon. He's insisting on taking the Hood. He's not confident, but he has been working up a strategy.
I'll be sure to post the results when we play. |
