|

I need a check on when the WC & DisDev function. I think it's like this:
Offensive Fire Phase:
1) Declare (including WC & DisDev)
2) Execute (i.e., roll for weapons fire except WC & DisDev)
3) mark Damage
4) WC casts web (Normal Web instantly active)
5) DisDev displaces target
The rules state that:
1) Webcasters cast web after all other direct fire weapons (4Q1b).
2) DisDevs operate after all weapons fire is resolved (5U3a2).
Because of the rules they are under, I believe the WC is a weapon, but the DisDev is a system. Since the DisDev is a system, the Webcaster does not have to wait for the DisDev, but the DisDev must wait until the WC is resolved. Therefore, the WC can cast normal web that can block a DisDev's declared displacement (5U6e1).
Also because of the sequence above, it's possible for direct fire damage to destroy a WC and DisDev prior to them actually functioning which would result in them not functioning and power being lost.

I asked something similar once in the dim past. All fire is effectively simultaneous, once declared you can't actually stop it. The Disdev will function, even if destroyed, and web won't block it. Same with web, although presumably if you destroy an anchor during that offensive fire (assuming its a ship) it will stop the web from being laid? |

Cast normal web (i.e., with anchors) takes effect instantly. 4Q3b _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

Storyelf...I see it now. It's taking place after all other fire in order to avoid moving ships before weapon's fire is resolved, but it's still "simultaneous" _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

Both web casters and displacement devices take effect after all of the other weapons effects is because, unlike other weapons, they could be potentially argued to affect other weapons' abilities.
Since both weapons take place "at the end of the phase", that means they operate basically simultaneously, without actually affecting each other. As said previously, all weapons fire in the phase is simultaneous, the effects still happen even if the web caster or DD are disabled. This is, of course, mitigated by other extenuating circumstances. So, if the target of the DD is destroyed, the DD doesn't do anything. If a anchor point for a cast fixed web is destroyed, the cast web fails to stabilize.
(In that case of a destroyed anchor point, it isn't so much that the cast web isn't cast, but that the cast web isn't able to fully form or stabilize [or whatever the techno-babble explanation is] and immediately goes away, causing no effects.) _________________
