I'm really sort of new to the SFU, so I didn't come in with years of knowledge under my belt or with lots of the books. A friend found me CL#1 recently and I read it and loved the Juggernaut story and was happy to find out what the Kaufman Retrograde Maneuver was about. I also liked the art.

The word "race" was used quite frequently though; I had to remind myself that this was the BJ (Before Jean) era. Smile

So what did you like?

(Edited for clarity -- Jean)

I bought mine new, off the shelf at Music City Magic and Fun in Nashville, TN.
I really enjoyed the Juggernaut scenario.

We had played several games of SFB, so the new scenarios and the new "monster" were a welcome treat.

But the best thing was no incoming Griswald's to duck. Shocked

I first saw it in a friend's game collection on the eve of Doomsday.

My favorite part was the cover. Yes, the story delivered everything the cover promised, but the cover threw in one extra thing: the shadow of the Tholian Cruiser on the Juggernaut! The artist was even kind enough to nearly align it with the centerline. Guestimating around 90 meters for the cruiser makes Juggie over 3 kilometers long!

Let me thumb through it... (of course I bought one of my own!)

Wow! The first Tholian Pinwheel, and the first Anarchist! ("converted as follows: replace...")

Ah, and the Starline ad in the back cover. Just to know what the ships looked like back then...

For me, there wasn't one thing in specific, but I did love all the scenario included--so many ideas! It was also the second issue of CL that I got, so it really helped get me into the SFU.

I'm going to have to get back to the tub with my CLs and re-read that issue.

Definitely the Juggernaught story. It was the first big piece of SFU fiction I read, other than something in Nexus 13 about a Romulan Attack on a Fed Base Station. The Juggie story was interesting and featured a brand new threat to fight with!

Juggernaut story, and at the time, I was new to SFB and LOVED Tholians. I really enjoyed how the Tholian played his part in that story.

Jean, you'll also note the symptoms of Creeping Capitalisation Syndrome on the cover Wink

The Juggernaut story. The fiction in CL is something I really look forward to reading. And I enjoyed the Juggernaut Beta story and look forward to the Juggernaut Gamma story if written (or if it has been I haven't gotten that issue yet)

If you haven't seen it already, the Fire in the Deep short piece in Captain's Log #41 (set on the Seltorian Hive Ship Star of Redemption) is written with the assumption that the opposing ships are Juggernauts. (Those units are listed with Latin designations instead of Greek ones; with Juggernaut Primus, Juggernaut Secundus, and so on.)

Officially, the SFB scenario tied to the story is a simulator exercise, and says that the true identity of the units which the Star fought on the way to its target galaxy is unknown. But even so, who (aside from ADB themsleves) is to say they weren't Juggernauts after all?

That would be great. Seems that this is part of SFB that could really be opened up and expanded. Tossing this out there, the last two have affected the Federation either in part or in full. Be interesting if Gamma (and/or Delta etc) came in somewhere else in the Alpha Octant. Just like J/A menaced the Feds, Klink and Tholians...what if J/G went after the Lyrans and Hydrans..or the Roms and ISC?

At any rate, I'll be looking forward to it.
