If I order the hard copy of R2-4, will they come with these new SSD books, or are you still using old stock?

No answer to this?

Probably just missed it.

My understanding (meaning: I could be wrong) is that ADB doesn't redo an SSD book until they run out. (Which is why, for example, they haven't redone Advanced Missions yet.) So, yes, if you order a new R2-4, you should get the updated versions, not the old versions.

Confirmed, the R2 hard copy SSD books going out are new ones. We re-did it when we ran out of the old ones.

The year is 1998. Were you waiting breathlessly for your issue of Star Fleet Times? Little did you know you would find this information:

#31: Sigvirions (another Omega Sector race); Tournament Rules Test; Jindarian and Vudar tactics.
#32: Iridani Fighters (see issue #24), combo-hulled Lyran ships (Arctic Lion CW, Limping Cat CA, Manchurian Tiger CV, Battlecat DD, Housecat HDW), light dreadnoughts (Klingon, Kzinti).
#33: Heavy dreadnoughts (Fed, Rom, Gorn), weird General War ships (Fed Turret Cruiser, Klingon E3X, Romulan Sniper Frigate, Gorn Bubble Dreadnought, Qari Multi-Turret Cruiser).
#34: Three playtest scenarios (Gorn-ISC, Orion-Andro, Fed-Rom Q-ship), obscure old Rom variants (Battle Eagle CVM, BH-B DDL, King Falcon heavy mauler, Screech Owl HSC, Snipe-C FFL).
#35: The Souldra, a new race for the Omega Sector (complete rules included).

Add this to your e-collection of materials!

New on e23: SFB Commander's Edition, volume I, revision 1.

http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=ADB5501-84

It was 1983, and it was time for the phenomenon that was Star Fleet Battles to get organized. The game had grown through four expansions, and new material was being released every month. The structure of the original 1979 pocket game could not contain, control, or even keep track of the game as it had grown.

And so, the Commander's Edition was born, and would rule the game industry for nearly a decade. The original rules numbering system (whatever we thought of next got the next number) was discarded, and the rules were organized into the departments still used three decades later: A-General, B-How to play, C-movement, D-combat, E-direct-fire weapons, F-seeking weapons, G-systems, H-power, J-Shuttles, K-gunboats, M-Mines, P-terrain, R-empires/ships, S-scenarios, T-Mini-campaigns, U-Campains. The existing rules material was divided into three volumes, although volume I (this e23 file) got most of the basic rules.

There were a lot of ships because even in that early time it was more ships that players wanted. The Federation had the original Franz Joseph ships (heavy cruiser, dreadnought, destroyer, scout, tug) plus the light cruiser. The Klingons had the D6, D7, C8, C9, F5, and E4. The Romulans had the Warbird, War Eagle, and KR. The Kzintis had the light cruiser, strike cruiser, carrier, and frigate. The Gorns had the heavy and light cruisers and the destroyer.

Star Fleet Times #36-40 is now available on e23. Where were you in the fall of 1998? (And yes, F&E is corrupting me -- I nearly wrote Fall Y1998!)

http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=ADB3037

#36: Engine-mounted weapons on Alliance shi
ps (support variants, such as troop transports, which actually have heavy weapons to match those of their Coalition foes). This is a three-part project in three issues, with 31 total ships. All three issues were published simultaneously in October 1998.
#37: Engine-mounted weapons, part 2 of 3 (see issue #36).
#38: Engine-mounted weapons, part 3 of 3 (see issue #36).
#39: The Deal's done, alternate base rules.
#40: Scary Ships of 1998 part 1; Scary Weapons; Colony Evolution.

Forgive a silly question, what is StarFleet Times exactly? I've not seen this before, but now that I'm getting into the e23 stuff I see all the issues. Is this something like CL?

Thank you Very Happy

Star Fleet Times was sort of a newsletter that had really cool information in it. It was published primarily during a period when there were no Captain's Logs, so it helped people stay in touch. You might try a set of five and see if you like it.

Star Fleet Times was a four-page newletter SFB did for several years as a means of keeping in contact with their customers in the pre-web days. It usually had a ship and a scenario and current company news. In a way, it was kind of a spiritual ancestor to the modern Communique.

EDIT: Crap! Jean sniped me!

Appreciate the info. Looks interesting and I may start getting those. In the mean time I just went to e23 and got Stellar Shadow Journal and The Triangulum Galaxy.

Both look very interesting! Took a brief look through both and like the new ships and weapons systems.

Thank you again Very Happy

I think most of them were more than 4 pages, but it's been a long time since I looked at one. (Just checked the two I had on my hard disk, both are 12 pages.)

My bad. I must have been thinking of Star Letter instead. Sorry about that. But the comparison with Communique is even more valid in that case!

One quick note; if you want to see more from M33, a fourth playtest fleet (the Imperium) is in Captain's Log #23.

Plus, all four empires have counters available in Special Countersheet #1.

And there's some errata for E2.

(That seemed to turn into three notes, ahem.)

Hey, thanks for the tip. I've got CL#23 in hard copy so I just went and read those articles. I like it!

And thank you for pointing out the counters as well. Very Happy
