In case anyone is curious, here's the latest on the PBEM I'm moderating. It's a duel between Rom KE & Fed CA.
We're slowly making our way through Turn 1. Currently finishing Impulse 7. The Rom KE has just fired at the Fed CA (Range 9).
The huge R-bolt missed, but the F-bolts and a couple of phasers managed to nibble away at the Fed's #5 shield. Scored 1 burn-through on a Ph-3.
That R-bolt would have really hurt, but to plagarize one of the wallpapers from this site: Quote: | "plasma bolts, whether they hit or miss, someone's gonna be mad" |
The burn-through caused another break point so waiting for SOP updates on Thursday. Just when things we're getting interesting... _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

Well...we're still on Impulse 8. First there was an acceleration...that caused a break. Then a ship turned for another break. Maybe we'll finish Imp 8 this week. <Sigh> _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

WooHooo! Turn 1 is finished! Now onto Energy Allocation. Nothing new to report. The cruisers managed to turn away from each other and are now rapidly increasing the range. _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

Well...going on 2 weeks for Turn 2 so how 'bout an update. Not much. So far... 3 autobreaks. An acceleration, a me-too acceleration, and finally a ship moved. Of course it was a turn so that's the 3rd autobreak. _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

I can see that trying to turn around is going to be pretty annoying, lol |

Remember the players can send orders that say "no need to break if he is turning away from me", "I don't care about his accels until we get to range 10" etc.
It helps if the players can anticipate some of the actions the other guy will do, and give instructions for them. |

And we have....MODERATOR ERROR! MODERATOR ERROR!
Totally missed the range was close enough to trigger the ROM's conditional order. Had to go back and redo the SITREP, but thankfully it didn't change the break point that we were on.
So instead of just a mutual acceleration break point, the ROM fired phasers at the Fed's weak shield on Imp 1. That shield is now down to 8 while the rest remain full. The phaser fire and damage didn't cause a break point, and so the break point is still a mutual acceleration on Imp 2.
Lost 2 days on that one. other than that no harm done since the break point and ship positioning remains unchanged. Just have to be more careful about that. _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

Been there... done that...
Try running 6 PBEM games simultaneously.
you're bound to miss a break point... especially if you have two very responsive players and updates are coming every few minutes! _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

So, we've finished Impulse 4 of Turn 2. The Fed CA managed to turn around and is now chasing the much faster Rom KE. As for the Rom KE, she's opening the range after that potshot at the Fed.
Will the Fed catch the Rom?
Will the Rom reload before the Fed closes?
Will the Fed's weak shield be repaired in time?
Stay tuned for the next update... _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

End of Turn 2.
The Rom KE is Range 16 from the Fed CA off the #6 shield and moving away. Facings are F (Rom) and A (Fed) and all turn/slip modes are satisfied.
Fed tried a phaser strike and missed with all phasers. Nothing better to do with that energy, though, so no loss there.
The ROM discarded 7 energy, but that could have easily been used reinforcing the phaser strike. And the Fed repaired the damaged Ph-3.
There are now two 18-point Fed SS on the board and a Fed drone.
Going to get interesting in Turn 3. The Fed's got loaded photons and the Rom will start turn 2 of loading for Plasma. Will the Rom keep running or cloak? Will the Fed spend energy to close the range? Stay tuned to find out. _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

The game's been put on hold for about a month. One of the players has a new recruit at home. Congrats to the new drill instructors.
Here's the map showing all moves for the game so far.
Gray dotted line is floating map movement. Yellow dotted lines is weapons fire. The Fed started in the upper left and the Rom started in the lower right.
The Fed CA
E signifies that the shuttle box is empty (the shuttle launched)

As you can see, we're on Turn 3 and the ships are in really good shape. This has been a very tentative match as both opponents feel their way into PBEM. _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

And here's the SITREP. I added an ammo line so that the players could tell the status of the drone rack ammo.
The Rom turned which caused the current autobreak in the game. The Fed CA and FD/1 still need to move during Imp 1.2 _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory
