This is an update to a Play-by-email SFB game--between Jenn and
Jonathan-- that I began moderating this summer.
The game started on July 25th of this year so it's about 3 months old.
We agreed to play using the SFB Cadet Rules because we were all looking for
a simple way to get into PBEM. From a moderator perspective I was
hoping for an easier game to cut my teeth on but I wouldn't advise
using the cadet rule set: the rule set isn't meant for this kind of
game and some problems took me by surprise.
In any case... we used the standard starting position and the standard
tournament map and the players chose their ships. Jenn in the Hydran
Cadet Cruiser and Jonathan in the Gorn.
The turns are Cadet turns and are 16 impulses long.
Without a doubt--playing a game in this way takes some effort and
stick-to-it-tiveness on the part of both the players and the moderator.
On the other hand there is a real pleasure to sitting down and watching
two ships slug it out and I find myself eagerly anticipating the next
set of moves.
I'm lucky to have two patient and courteous players taking part as I
learn the ins and outs of moderating. Jenn and Jon have been courteous
throughout and have been forgiving of my mistakes.
