But in all of the efforts that the Klingons made to destroy the Holdfast, were they not in the midst of efforts to commit mass xenocide themselves - since by destroying the Sphere, they'd kill the Tholians living on it?
And if they continued to have a long-term goal of getting rid of the Holdfast, unless they wished to drive the civilian populace into exile on some suitably hellish world in the Federation, they would have the same goal as the Tribunal fleets...
...unless the discovery of what happened during the Revolt prompted a shift in the Empire's long term position concerning the Holdfast? _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

If it is any consolation, I thought the same thing.
But no.
The goal of the Klingons is to destroy the Holdfast, not kill all of the Tholians. They are probably more than content to let the Tholians continue to live on their dyson sphere in perpetuity, but only as a proper subject race.
Basically, they want their territory back. Making the Tholians into a valuable subject race is a very big plus. But the Klingon's focus is territorial, political, and economic.
The Seltorians, on the other hand, just want to Kill The Tholians. All of them. To the last rock. The shoot the last few bodies a couple more times just to make sure. Maybe even blow up a few hellhole planets to make sure none were missed.
Completely different mindset. And the Seltorian mindset unnerved the Klingons. _________________

Indeed.
Given the Seltorians breeding capability, they could easily "turn" on the Klingons later (and certainly had shown that they have no problem exterminating a species). From the Klingon point of view, it makes sense to eliminate a huge risk. _________________

I suppose the difference between the Selts and the Lyrans/Kzintis is that the Lyrans and Kzintis aren't so wholeheartedly devoted to the annihilation of the other race. As in, the two races can in theory co-exist (and manage to do so within the WYN Star Cluster), but in practice they never quite seem to be able to get along.
The Seltorians are on the rough equivalent of a crusade to exterminate the Tholians. |

Maybe since the Klingons found out the Seltorians dominate their home galaxy (M81), they decided to RAID them before an infestation took hold in the Milky Way.
Just look at the size of this Nest Ship that was spotted locally.

Now I can totaly understand the Klingon's point of view. In fact we should all be thaning the Empire for its services! |

I like the hive ship, it looks like if you cut it up right (with phasers, etc.) when attacking it, it might make a tasty snack for the victors. |

Geez, just think how that would have sat with the Rockheads. Going from absolute masters of their galaxy [or was it several, I seem to recall....] to being a Klingon subject race. Ouch.
Not that the Tholians were particularly nice people anyway, but still.... _________________

Nice thread revival there. As much as I like the Tholians, I would have to agree they aren't the nicest people out there... |
