Does anyone know if there a differnce between the CA and the CL, or is it the same miniature? |

without going and getting one of each out of the minis box to check...
The biggest differnece is the warp engines. The CL has a shorter engine than the CA. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

The CL is also narrower (both sides of the hull and center support), and slightly shorter as well. _________________ One of the guys that sculpts the minis (Starline 2400) |

Aha: Just as I thought. I pulled one of each out of the minis bin and compared them.
There are a few distinct differences between the two:
The CA of course, is a CA miniature.
The CL miniature looked to have been based on a heavily modified CA mini.
The engines have indeed been shortened (to account for the different number of boxes on the diagram, one would suppose)
The two outer "pods" (for lack of a better term) have been narrowed by ~1/8-inch. On my mini, there was originally a line down the center of each pod that looked as if someone had sawn it throug hthe middle and then epoxied it back together in a narrower style. It only took a minute or two with a sanding stick to make that go away.
The only other visible difference is the removal of the center phaser mount onthe outer mid-section of each pod. The CA mounts three phasers in this position and the CL only has two.
I hope this answers your question. For a better idea as to how they look, please refer to the webpage in my signature below. There should be painted examples of all of the Lyran ships there. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

I will say that I am highly disappointed in you. You made it sound like you had a picture of a Lyran CL on your site, and you don't.
However, if you click on the "Lyran fleet" link, you will see a CA in hex 0821 and a BC in hex 0919. If you ignore the center hull of the BC and focus on the outer pylons of the BC, you will see that they are much thinner than the pylons of the CA (or of the DN in hex 1220). The outer pylons of a BC are the same as those of a CL. (Just as the outer pylons of the DN are the same as those of the CA.)
So, you can use the site to see the differences between a CL and a CA, you just can't see an actual CL. _________________

Mike, you are no more appalled than I am. I was certain that I had uploaded the pictures of my Lyran CL to the site... but obviously I hadn't.
I am leaving my office for the airport and a trip to Chicago, but rest assured that once I return, I will rectify the situation.
Malleman: I apologize for misleading you. I was mistaken in my suggestion to check the images on my site. I have indeed painted a couple of CL's but have yet to upload them. I will upload them this weekend, so check back then. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

And for a brief second I thought "I've got a miniature that Scoutdad doesn't have, and Scoutdad has more miniatures than anyone" (except Chuck Norris obviously).
Now I shall return to my life of small dreams, crushed once more.... _________________ Nothing is quite as persuasive as a disruptor pistol on slow burn and a rotisserie...... |

Under Chuck Norris' beard, there isn't a chin; it's a B-10 mini ready for an alpha-strike. |
