Are there enough campaigns out there to make it worth it? I'd be inclined to just stay with the general discussion unless and until campaign news starts occupying a much bigger proportion of the threads on this board.

The thread title makes it pretty clear what the subject of the thread is and if it starts to irritate people by always floating about I'm sure they'll let us know.

I'm rather enjoying the "historical" record that's being created, too. Smile

Oh yes: fights this turn are E4 vs PC and Lyran CA and FF vs D5W and E5. The E4 vs PC was played this afternoon, but I haven't heard the result yet and the Lyran player is not about at the moment.

I concur with Pinkfulffy chicken, I find this thread to be the end all for campaigns, and it is probably appropriate for it to be here.

I too enjoy this thread, the information from many players and the historical footprint.

I am intrigued by the TSE......federation hulls with particle cannons...fun.

also looking forward to hearing about the results of this massive romulan/gorn raiding war and squadron engagement. If I remember from on of your earlier threads it seems like most empires only have about 10-15 ships. so if that is true then the romulans and gorns have commited substantial elements of each empires fleets....

opportunity for the federation or the Klingons?

ohhh, what are the name sof the ships engaged?

Hmm. There's a challenge. I have to be careful what I say, because if I reveal information that a player might not know, then I distort the game. However:

The Lyran player has been stealing space from the Klingons South and South West borders for a few turns and the Klingon stole hexes back but the ships didn't actually meet. Then the CA and FF (name and number are classified information) met the D5w and the E5 which reacted out from a Klingon Planet with a Base of some sort (type is classified information) in orbit which has detected the CA and FF as a number of blips some phases earlier (1 phase = 1/6 turn). The Klingon player by sending out an investigating ship discovered the exact nature of the blips and has sent a D5W and E5 to intercept. Will the Lyran accept battle? The Galaxy holds its breath Shocked

The other fight - the Tholian PC vs E4 is rather more peculiar in that the Tholian has travelled quite a way across the map to reach the Klingon, but the situation is politically current and at present government officials on both sides are responding with a terse, "No comment." to all enquiries.

But if the Tholian travelled a fair way to reach the Klingon, the Gorn has crossed half the Galaxy to reach the South of the Hydran Empire. A Gorn expedition just reached the edge of space that information led it to believe was Hydran. No further information is currently available on this subject, or on Federation/Klingon relations, which are under a diplomatic blackout and no-one knows anything about the Kzinti except possibly the Hydran, who has just become aware of what might be a Kzinti presence at his Western extremities.

The Hydran Empire is reported to be indulging in wide scale panicking. Cool

PostPosted: Mon Jan 28, 2008 5:00 am    Post subject: forgot some details from last turn Reply with quote

there was so much that happened on turn 7 that I only gave the highlights.

Also in reply to my freind on the thames psting...wow that sounds awesome, how are you playing a Lyran player with only a few hulls available?...any advice or insight.

ok here are the forgotten details.

1. The TSE turn, the TSE player paid and deployed 12 Orion Pirates!! he paid the production up front, then started rolling on the Orion contact chart..He manages to get 4 pirates to agree to a contract, this was a lucrative round for the TSE, they also announed massive raids with thier own ships targetting the already weakened Fedeartion Merchant Marine. The TSE raided with a total of 12 ships, leaving only 3 for the total defense of thier airspace..they must be very trusting of their neighbors the Kzinit, Tholians and Gorn.

2. The Federation, the Federation player explored, captruing four more sectors one of which was a level 5! they also prepared for a three front attack? very unfederation like...but this campaign allows the races to take on less than historical roles. the Federation hit the Kzinti! moving a 3 ship squadron into a level 4 sector, the Kzinti had grown thier border a little to aggresivle and this is how the federation told them, also the Kzinti had forgotten to deploy ship units on this new border and the federation took the sector with no battle...however the kzinti did reply...see below. The federation also attacked the intimidating TSE, and took a level 4 sector, they also hit alevel 6 sector but withdrew after sizing up the enemy defense....3 TSE NCA's. the federation player also had mased a fleet on the klingon border of a nca and 5 frigates...but they could not attack! the pirates had given away the fleet postion to the klingons and the klingons attacke dthem at acnhor...to be resolved. Teh federation also had pirate activity and made some credits.

3. the Klingons, they explored some, seizing 4 more secotrs near the lyran border and also attacked the Federation fleet. they also contracted with 10 pirates, only had 4 work out though. the Klingons also purchased a massive C-5 light raiding dreadnaught..and sent into federation territory to raid shipping...sort of like the Bismark in WWII.

4. Romulans, raided the Gorns, also sent ina light raiding dreadnaught, defended against gorn raiders and now there are several battle sto be fought, and they invaded the Gorn with a small fleet. (see previous post)

5. Gorn (see previous post)

6. the Tholians ...silent killers they are, took two sectors and placed the border of thier territory adjacent to two home systems of bordering empires. they took a TSE and a Gorn sector with 3 tholian ships in each sqaudron. the Gorn attempted diplomatic channels, the Tholians warned them that any encrouchment on the Assemblies territory wouuld be an act of war, and then silenced all communications. The TSE also sent communications, they just told the Tholians that they needed to prepare to be a new slave race for the Terran Empire.

7. Kzinit, declared war on the Federation and entered a military alliance with the TSE....yikes.

8. random encounters...two hydran rangers entered and took a level 4 sector from the Kzinti..the Kzinti will most likely send a couple of ships up to this far away section of the HEgemony and attempt to move the squators off...the Drone way of course.

That is a pretty fast sypnosis....

It doesn't seem to be much of an issue, as long as a race has examples of each size class. The lack of a Gorn frigate was more of a concern in the early days of the campaign. grin. Heck, the Lyran can build Heavy Battlecruisers by chopping his Light Cruisers in half and adding a section. MUCH easier than building a BCH from scratch! What more could a race want? DNs from CAs? Shocked

Ok, it's fun to have CWs and other such tarty ships, but they aren't necessary. The same sort of thing applies to the Hydran: there are enough published ships out there to make the race functional and competitive. Since battles are not "fair", a Ranger with all its fighters is just one cruiser. Would you fancy meeting it in any other single CA, xpt possibly the ISC? Twisted Evil

Mind you, both the Lyran and Hydran players salivate at the prospect of Distant Kingdoms. Not a pretty sight. Wink

This sounds good,

is there anything different about the pirate cartels? do you have a list of are you starting a list of Legendary officer skills similar to your leveled system with the other officers?

also do you have legendary skills for the other races yet? Tholians? Gorn? ...ect

My players and I are finding that this is actually one of the neatest and most compelling idea for a modification to this game yet. not to say that your campaing is not interesting but in truth, the legendary officers skills and your levelling system is awesome and has changed the landscape of our games!
Thanks!!!

thanks for the nice comments Commodore.

Yes in fact the cartels will each possess different 'campaign' and legendary officer characteristics. the legendary officer abilities will come from both the general officer abilities as well as orion specific. however there most likely will not be cartel specific, just orion pirate overall. though each cartel will posess unique abilites that will work in the campaign setting at the strategic level.

Also I am workig righ now on Tholian and Gorn legendary abilities, they are quickkly needed as both of those empires are going intot the thick of it this next turn.

Friday noght we will have two tbales going at the same time to attempt to resolve all of the battles from the last turn.

regards!

I'm interested in how many people you have playing in your campaign. And are all based there in CA? Do you do any of it online?

Hi Mike, good question.

We have 5 players including myself who is the GM.

each player controls one empire (one plays 2), I Control the NPC empires and Pirates/monsters, as well as any unique campaign scenarios that may come up.

and all empires are used except the Lyrans and Hydrans at this point. our unique race is the Terran Empire (mirror universe federation...pretty nasty empire)

we have not taken any of it online as of yet.

thanks!

Greetings.

well we were finally able to assemble and begin one of 7 battles that need to be fought from turn 8.

and here is what transpired:

A Romulan invasion fleet consisting of the following;

Con DN, Imperial Wrath
King Eagle, Praetors Sword
War Eagle, Bloodwing

proceeded across the Gorn Border, at the same time you will probably recall that there was multiple border raids carried out between both empires in prelude to this attack.

The Gorn swiftly responded with thier own fleet that moved to intercept and engage the Romulans.

The Gorn Fleet consisted of the following:

HDN, Hammer of the Tri-Star
DD, Black Raptor
FF, Fedifensor

the two fleets faced off, the prize...a level 4 secotr for the romulans if they are victorious, also given the powerful ships involved either empire could be seriously set back if there was a major defeat.

the Romulan ships came in at speed 8 and proceeded to cloak, moving towards the gorn formation cautiously and keeping in mind that they had higher levels of plasma and phasers as a group. (3 plasma R!!, 2 S, 5 F)

The Gorns came in fast, the HDN a massive capitol ship escorted by the two smaller gorn ships, they closed on turn 1, the Romulans stayed cloaked.

AT the end of turn 1 the Gorns used the Carronade with satisfactory results, at range 4 the fleet opened fire with 5 carronades and 16 p-1 all targeted on the Condor. the mighty Romulan Flagship shook with the shock of the attack bu thte front shield held, due to excellent power reserves in teh DN for shield reinforcement against each volley from the 3 differetn ships.

The romulans were not baited and they stayed cloaked. on trun 2 the Gorns closed to range 1, the Romulans went to speed 0 and the gorns decalred speed 24 for all 3 ships!. at the end of impulse 1 the gorns and the romulans were at range 1, the gorns again unleased massive carronades and pahser fire. The target the Condor DN. The romulan flagship had completly restored thier front shield at the end of turn 1 and now they had to see if at range 1 they could dhrug off this close range attack.

The gorns fired, the romulan DN front sheild collapsed and they scored 4 internal hits, the two fleets passed each other, the gorns sliped beehind the romlulans. the next impulse the romulans acclerated and moved to 0+1 and then HETd!!! they had started to uncloak on impulse 1 after the direct fire salvo of the gorn fleet. seeing the gorn power grid and determing that now the gorn fleet with thier speed 24 and having fired all those weapons that they could not outrun the plasma's!!

So the romulans turned, and three powerful Romulan vessels de-cloaked, at the the edn of the other phase in impule 2 they were completely out of cloack, the gorns had moved 3 hexes forward, on the seeking waepons phase the Romulans fired ...all Plasma Torps.

3 R
2 S
5 F

targeting the HDN....the Gorn admiral looked at the movement looked at his power and realized that he could not outrun ther incoming toprs, and all phasers had been used against the cloaked ships.

The GOrns...withdrew, disengaging from the endge of the map just beofre the torps hit and eviscerated the Heavy DN.

the Romulans won, they were awarded 15 VP, for each ship. Both empires tested 2 things.

1 the Gorns tested thier Caronade
2. the Romulans tested thier cloak at close range against a Gorn Fleet.

To be continued.....................
