Here's the match, as best as I remember it.

Turn 1 I went 8 and Eric went 24. We exchanged long range fire and blocked all damage. He launched drones. I didn't launch.

Turn 2 we closed. I sped up to 16 and he stayed at 24. I launched two plasma S (one from my NH and one from my escort) at his war cruiser and started chucking pl-D at his drones (against drones, I can launch 1 per impulse per rack). I want to say that since he was spending power on movement, I wasn't afraid to close (not as many OL disr) but in truth I miscalculated. Somewhere in the turn, I ended up r4 or 5 in his LR/L spine and he off my RF/R spine. He fired standard disruptors and phasers at my SpA and I fired phaser 1's and a bolted F (from the NH) at his CW. He targed weapons and I, not playing FC as much, forgot to target power. (A rom or gorn wants you unable to run away.) The SpA lost all plasma tubes, so he launched all 3 tubes, one at a drone. The main tube was only holding a G, and couldn't be upgraded after it was destroyed.

Turn 3 he parked his DW and repaired shields. I moved after him (he did a lot of 24+1 on turn 3 to avoid the plasma). The plasma hit and damaged the shields. His other two ships started turning around. After he realized I was after the stationary DW, he HETd to intercept me. I ended up hosing the DW with phasers (r1) on the shield that was damaged with plasma and blew it up. He fired r4 on my SpM (the SPa had stayed behind.) and knocked down a shield doing some internals. I believe the spM launched two D's at one of the other ships, but I'm not sure. On impulse 8 I HETd my NH and gave him a choice of being tractored or risking a second HET. I ended up tractoring him and launching my other S and F from the NH. I probably phasers down drones this turn, but I don't remember it. I think he also got a second shot through downed shield on my SpM.

T4 Eric checked the rules and found we had to plot speeds first and then do the tractor auction. My NH has tons of power and he had used his batteries. I ended up plotting 16 and he 8. I paid the 1 point, he countered it and I allowed it to be broken. There was no way he was going to avoid that plasma. The NH, the CC and the FC cancelled moved in impulse 1. He fired 8p1 and 2p2 (I think) at the plasma S, knocking it down considerably. He fired on NH's shield 1 and did 88 damage with one volley and 15 with another. My NH didn't fire back with many phasers (it was saving p1 for drone defense) but did some damage through the damaged shield. In the other action phaser, he sent over marines to try to knock out my A launcher and failed. Launch phase, I fast loaded an F and launched it. I also launched 4 pl-D at the other ship (the one that was moving speed 24). He launched 3 drones.

The F entered through the open shield, I moved forward into the drones, but killed them with the p1's I was saving. The Pl-D hit on fresh shield, 2 on one shield, 2 on anohter. My SpA had been coming back to join the other 2 and knocked down one of the weakened shields and did about 3 internals. In midturn, Eric saw that I was moving my SpM to phaser the speed 8 ship and that the turn would end with my 3 ships having it surrounded and my having 2 more plasma S's available on 6. I also had 4 pl-D (2 in each of the LS racks) available. He conceded at this point.

Eric, is this how you remember it? I got confused on the what happened during which turn until I remembered that turn 1 (according to the client) we did nothing but adjust for the newer plasma rules. What I call turns 1 to 5 up there was actually 2 to 6 on the client.

Eric is a very good player. I owe my win to his inexperience vs plasma and not to his inability as a player.

Rough description of my game

Despite being over 4 hours the game had only lasted 2 turns when I conceded. Which was probably not far off what I expected, given the 2 races it was always likely to be close, big exchange and work out who won type of game.

Turn 1 I closed under EM and took some minor off shield damage.

Turn 2 I finished closing, dropped EM at the point I was due to reach point blank range. I ended up between the Tiger (in front) and Alleycat (behind. Both at range 1, I wasn't quite planning on range 1, but c'est la vie. The DN was a few hexes in front of me. Fire was exchanged, I killed the Tiger and gutted the Alleycat. He killed a mongol and gutted a Rhino, but he hadn't fired from his DN (or maybe a some weapons were used, can't remember).

We were both committed to straight ahead as we had just turned, so the DN and my ships passed each other, but the DN had power for a HET where as I didn't. He HET'd and tractored the other Mongol, pulled it away from the other ships and blew it away. At end of turn 2 the other rhino made a mistake and also got tractored by the DN. I conceded at the end of the turn. Had we continued, start of turn 3 would have seen me do decent damage to the DN (but far short of a cripple) whilst getting blown away myself.

Jiraiya1969 is going to do a much better write up for our battle, but I will say this, I finally got to shoot a probe as a weapon against his C7 with the Tokyo's final attack before it got destroyed...

They went down fighting to the end, even went speed zero to save up power to fire that probe and last remaining phaser banks.

My summary:
U.S.S. Tokyo - The NCC - Went down Fighting!
U.S.S. Olympia - the NCL - seriously damaged and not combat effective.
U.S.S. Repulse - the NCL - undamaged, just some shield hits.

Drew and I were able to get two full turns completed this evening in our match. Lots of drones, plasma and suicide shuttles have been in the air.

Two of Drew's Fed FFs are gutted and he took some shield damage on his Fed CS and NCL. I am down to a Bridge box, Probe box and a few energy boxes on one of my Gorn HDDs. My Gorn DN and my second Gorn HDD are undamaged.

We pick it up again next Wednesday evening.

Brazouck and Krellex through end of turn three.
Brazoucks photon rolls have been dismal, his ADD rolls haven't been much better. So far my C7 has some decent internals, but only missing some power and a few phasers, and most of the hull boxes. Both my other ships are untouched. His frigate is almost gutted, it has one photon and some power left, plus a couple padding. His CA took a major beating, and all photons are down, plus several phasers and a few power. (still plenty of padding left, though) We may try to continue next Saturday, depending on schedules.

Garrett vs. Brandon (Archer): winner is Brandon!

I had a great game, thanks Brandon. Next time I'll do a better job of focusing my fire and will institute a training program for all of my gunners. Smile

After Action Report
156th Battle Group
Lt. j.g. Robert "Itchy Finger" Swenson, Weapons Officer, USS Bellerophon (NCA)

As part of my ongoing professional development, Commodore Archibald has ordered me to write the after action report following the engagement with the Tholians yesterday.

We detected the Tholian action group at about 09:45 on long range sensors. They were approaching at speed 16 on a intercept course.

Initial attempts to hail them were unsuccessful and the Commodore ordered the squadron to Red Alert. All torpedoes were loaded standard and we held our position until the end of the 1st turn.

All our ships began evasive maneuvers on impulse 7 as the Tholians approached maximum disruptor range. The Tholian group opened fire with all bearing disruptors on impulse 8 and made minimal contact with USS Knox on Shield 6. All damage was bounced.

Turn 2 began with the Commodore ordering all but two torpedoes overloaded (USS Renown BCJ) and speed increased to flank.

The Tholian group approached at speed 16. Two Web Casters were activated early in the turn placing obstacles in our path. Our group turned right to avoid the web. The Tholian group also turned right to keep the web between us. Late in the turn we cleared the web and had a range 6 opportunity on the Tholian Command Cruiser. The Commodore, seeing an opportunity to hit and run, ordered 2 OL and full phasers from USS Renown and 4 OL photons and some phasers from our ship, USS Bellerophon. 3 of 4 photons from Bellerophon missed and 1 of 2 from Renown missed. The combined effect was a down shield on the Tholian CC and some 15 or 20 internal hits. The response was significant, we lost shield 6 and took some internal damage and lost a torpedo.

The Commodore ordered Bellerophon to get some distance to reload. USS Knox and USS Renown continued to press the attack.

In this case, the Tholian's own web shielded us from the majority of the Tholian Dreadnought's firepower.

The Tholian Command Cruiser fell out of formation and turned south, we fired all drones available to keep him busy. The Tholian DN and DD headed north.

Turn 3 began with Renown performing a HET in order to chase the Tholian DN and DD. Bellerophon continued to move away (west), reloading our remaining 3 torpedoes. USS Knox shadowed the CC (south) exchanging some fire with the CC along the way.

By the end of turn 3, Renown was range 3 from the DN and DD. The Tholian fired all port side mounts in the Renown's forward shield, knocking it down and causing 40 internals. Commodore Archibald somehow resisted the urge to return fire, and lost only a preloaded photon and 2 phasers.

Renown chased the DN and DD until the end of the turn and ultimately fired and range 3. Two overloads and two standard torpedoes scored hits along with phasers. Shield 4 was down on the DN and some 20 internals were inflicted. By now, Bellerophon had turned to rejoin for turn 4. Additional shield damage was inflicted on Renown over turn 3 and some significant additional internals but she remained combat effective.

Turn 4 began with the Tholians decreasing speed to ensure significant firepower. Renown and Bellerophon continued at speed 16 and maneuvered for additional shots at the DN's aft shield. Taking additional damage to 2 other shields Renown achieved devastating additional damage to the Tholian DN through the aft shield. Bellerophon returned to bloody the Tholian Destroyer's nose. After firing everything, Renown continued north to the edge of the battle space and stopped at the end of turn 5.

Turn 5 began with Renown stopped facing away from the enemy with two torpedoes loaded. Bellerophon and Knox we also facing away from the enemy and had a few torpedoes ready between them.

The Commodore ordered a slow starboard turn on Renown to attempt to get his remaining torpedoes to bear on the incoming Tholian CC. By now, the CC had dispatched the drones that had marginalized him for a turn and a half and was approaching quickly to avenge the Tholian DN.

By the time the CC arrived to down yet another shield on Renown, Renown hit him with 2 OL and 4 phasers and caused significant additional damage. Bellerophon performed a HET and approached to finish off the CC.

The Tholian commander surrendered.

Results:
Tholian DPW: Total wreck, less than 10 internals remaining
Tholian CC: Total wreck, less than 10 internals remaining
Tholian DD: damaged, 25-30 internals remaining

USS Renown BCJ: severely damaged, less than 30 internals remaining. sufficient warp power to return to starbase. Every shield but #2 is wrecked

USS Bellerophon NCA: Minor damage, approximately 20 internal damage points, significant damage to 3 shields.

USS Knox FFG: Significant damage, 20 internals remaining, forward shield wrecked.

Although the engagement was a victory, the Tholian commander made us pay dearly for it. He was a cunning and worthy opponent. It is well for us he didn't survive or he might have learned a lesson or two to brutally apply to us in a future engagement!

v/r

Lt. j.g. Robert "Itchy Finger" Swenson, Weapons Officer, USS Bellerophon(NCA)
