So……this is the big project I referred to earlier (sorry to malleman for making him wait so long to see most of the finished minis I’ve had and promised to put up in one big montage). Some of you may have guessed this since I’ve been really interested in the Federation-Romulan Border (and that’s the FC box I got first). After months of hard work, sweat, headaches, hand cramps, and tears, I present…

The Federation Sixth Fleet on the Day of the Eagle, Y173.

Shiplist taken from CL#5, ship specifics taken from historical scenarios and conjecture based on F&E economics and background in SFB R sections as well as the summary in Romulan Attack.

Note: Some are reposts of previous pictures, and others are new pictures of ships that I’ve previously posted, while many are entirely new.

Yes, all the ships are unique. It's not an illusion created by thoron fields and duranium shadows (bonus points if you remember that reference).

The Full Fleet
Alternate View 1
Alternate View 2

The First division, holding the line nearest the Gorn Border. Seven ships under the Command of Commodore Anthony Stocker, including the fleet’s only Command Cruiser and Destroyer Leader.

unpainted
Full Division 1
USS Lexington, NCC-1703, a CC+.
USS Republic, NCC-1371, a CA+, one the older R-type cruisers (note the nacelle spikes and saucer markings).
USS Groton, NCC-1535 an NCL+.
USS Genghis Khan, NCC-501, a DDL+ (no FC drone rack).
USS Suffolk, NCC-914, a CL+.
USS Burke and USS Lehman, NCC-301 and NCC-310, FFG Frigates.

The Second Division holding the center part of the Border against the Romulans, under the command of Rear Admiral Williams. This division took more losses on Day of the Eagle than any other.

unpainted
Full Division 2
USS Reshadije, NCC-1372, a CAR+, one of the older R-type cruisers (note the nacelle spikes and saucer markings).
USS Prince of Wales, NCC-1505, an NCL+.
USS Macedonia, NCC-910, a CL+.
USS Anatolia, NCC-913, a CL+.
USS Xerxes, NCC-505, a DD (no refits).
USS Drake and USS Rommel, NCC-305 and NCC-336, FFG (conjecture based on the fact that most known frigates in the fleet are upgraded to FFGs or FFR+s) and FF Frigates.

The Third Division, patrolling the area of the border nearest the Tholioans and Klingons, under the Command of Fleet Captian Yefimov. This division had to be eliminated to link the Klingon and Romulan Empires to keep shipments of supplies for the Romulan KR cruisers coming (among other logistical matters).

unpainted
Full Division 3
USS Potemkin, NCC-1711 a CAR+ (the Zocchi miniature).
USS Kashmir, NCC-902, a CL (no refits).
USS Zhadanov and USS Mallory, NCC-321 and NCC-332, FFG Frigates.

Carrier Group N was stationed at Battlestation 11, tentatively under the command of Commodore Stocker. It was not activated until after the Day of the Eagle and managed to delay the Romulan Carrier Imperial Standard from driving deep into Federation territory (CL31).

unpainted
Full Carrier Group N
USS Nimitz, NCC-1751 a CVS+ (really a CVB).
USS Halsey, NCC-565, a DER (this one is confusing since the official registry has it as a DDE, but the scenario in CL31 uses a DER).
USS Fletcher and USS Spruance, NCC-315 and NCC-316, FFR+ Frigates.

Carrier Group R was stationed at Starbase 12 with Admiral Matthews, and did not see action until after DotE.

unpainted
Full Carrier Group R
USS Raeder, NCC-1955, a CVS+.
USS Donitz, NCC-569, a DDE.
USS Lutjens and USS Langsdorff, NCC-327 and NCC-351, FFR+ Frigates.

Command Elements of the 6th Fleet, under the command Admiral Matthews himself at Starbase 12. Some were engaged on DotE, while others were delayed in getting to the front for several days.

unpainted
Full Command Division
USS Unification, NCC-2122 a DN+.
USS Darius, NCC-502, a DD (no refits).
USS Crockett, NCC-598, an SC+.
USS Guderian, NCC-323, an FF Frigate.
USS Copernicus, NCC-3815, a Tug+.

Looks pretty cool!

However, I thought the Rommel and Guderian were always kept together - according to the fluff in "The Magnificent Panzers" - and I don't see the Prometheus or any FFBs...

They were deployed together on the Day of The Eagle, as the stories in CL5 and CL31 mention, but they were technically assigned to different divisions (according to the interview with Admiral Matthews from CL#5). As for the CS and FFBs, there was some debate on when the CSs were activated (I think F&E has one or more in mothballs in Y170), and the FFB wasn't built until Y175 as competing design with the DW.

Plus, I'm using the specs from CL#5 and I don't think either of those ships were around back when it was published.

Deep Space 9 - used to convince the Cardassians that DS9 had had its weapons suite refitted / upgraded!!!

Wow! Shocked
I'm truly impressed. Not only have I found a kindred spirit (read as owning more minis than anyone needs) - you have painted yours with a common theme, and I thought I was doing good just by painting the MacArthur carrier group and a the Nimitz group along with a whole slew of individual Federation ships.

Great job, Optimus.

It was also used in Way of the Warrior, when Gowron - in a fit of hubris - was convinced that the real weapons upgrades fited to the station by then were mere illusions...

And I can see where you are coming from, but I do wonder what a revised OOB for the Day of the Eagle might look like with all of the new aships/variants which have been introduced in the interim.

How did you get the flash out of your NCL's and still have them look so sharp, mine look like I put a bunch of putty in the place where the engines meet the saucer grills Sad

Paul -

I'm too stunned to type. Incredible job.
More stunned words of praise, in-reply on the legacy board.

Awesome job! You guys are making me so jealous with these things. I want to go get some of my own (though my wife has already nixed that idea).

WillC - Beware that some unpainted minis may get "left behind" on the table at the end of a session.

I guess doing the Romulan fleet which smashed its way over the border on said Day would be apt...

you know, I think you should probably invest in more minatures. Really round that fleet out.
