Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone knows of any trek "plans" what i mean is diagrams like an engineers drawing. I'm a 3D modeller and was going to have a crack at modelling a ship in 3D then get it rapid prototyped.
I have done this in the past with 28mm figures but i find 3D lends itself better to hard surfaces.
And if anyone would like a particular ship modelled, just let me know (along with the plans please!)
cheers

Sounds like an exciting project. I'm really interested in seeing what you come up with. _________________

Sweet, good luck to you man. Just remember to us the Hornet is a Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser with the Hull Numbers 1714. _________________ -Dal

Sim, where were you thinking of getting your model printed? I'm just curious - as I've been considering the same thing lately, but I'm not sure about pricing. Something that's small can still be considerably pricey. _________________

Hello, thanks for all the replies.
I was considering modelling in the designation numbers etc into the actual model as it will greatly aid in painting, but then it does limit you to using those numbers.
This is the company i use for all my RP as they have a flat $49 (oz dollar)
fee for small objects http://www.rapidprototype.com.au/
Its so cheap to RP i could model one with all the designations modelled in and one without and just pay the $49 for both of them. |

Hello all, sorry for the lack of updates, real life getting in the way!
Anyway, heres a rough first pass of the ship.
The warp engines are place holder at the moment, also the main hull is only placeholder. At this point i'm more interested in just getting the basic shape right.
Any suggestions/crits are welcome.

This looks really good to me so far Sim! The general shape seems fine to me, and as a "throw back" to a TOS hull style you give yourself some wiggle room that you wouldn't have had if you copied the TMP ship exactly. Nice work!
What program are you using to create your render?

I use Maya 8.5 for all the modelling and rendering.
Might get an hour or so on it today so i'll post more updates (hopefully!)
