Is the Fed command cruiser saucer merely a more detailed model than the usual cruiser, or are there structural differences as well?

You'll need to define what you mean by "structural".
The CC saucer was mastered from a computer model and has very refined details (on par with the injection-molded Zocchi plastic CA saucer). It has nice proportions on the saucer edge and overall, as well as a detailed engraved "shield grid".
The original metal CA saucer is a touch thick at the saucer edges and lacks some details (like the shield grid) that are on the other minis.
It's general arrangement is no different than any of the saucers, they all have a tab at the bottom of the neck intended to fit into the corresponding slot in the aft hull piece.
The details of all the CA-type saucers (Zocchi plastic CA, metal CA, metal CC, metal CF, metal GSC, metal BC) differ (phaser mounts, shape [in the case of the CF], sensors on the edge [in the case of the GSC], and "artistic license") but they all assemble the same. _________________

Point taken!
I was wondering if the CC saucer has different domes, thrusters, weapons pods, etc that would make it immediately decernably different from a standard cruiser.
I should have asked about the hull too!
In short, in getting the greater detail in eching, edges, etc, would the CC be so different as to badly represent the TOS cruiser?

OG is absolutely correct. The CC saucer is functionally identical to the CA saucer (same number and placement of weapons, etc.). All it really is is a much nicer (in my opinion) metal CA saucer. Buy a CC mini and call it a CA and no one could argue you.
I know, because that's exactly what I did. I'm one of the people who kept bugging SVC for something like it, so when he did release it, I voted with my dollars and bought a bunch.
All of my metal CA's were either bought as CC's or retrofitted-with the CC saucer. I also kitbashed it onto my BC's as well (by adding the "gunhouse" to the neck with scrap plastic). I even went so far as to modify one of the CC saucers to add the GSC's rim-mounted sensor dishes.
Needless to say, I really like the new CC saucer better. _________________
