I haven't tried FC before. I just DLed the First Mission to give it a try see if I can get my wife to play with me. as I was reading the rules I came up with a question and that is which is more fun to play Fleet or Squadron Scale? |

It depends on you personal taste.
I plat fleet scale almost exclusevely. It is faster and less overwhelming for new players, which makes it ideal to get people interested in the game.
Now, if you are talking about people with experience in wargames or/and complex tectical games, it is a different story... |

fleet scale is a little less forgiving of tactical mistakes but it can be a lot more fun in fleet scale because ships just explode left and right. There isn't much more fun then making frigates pop |

I like squadron scale as I think it is middle road between FC Fleet and SFB.
I was wondering if more new players prefered fleet scale as opposed to those who were used to playing SFB. |

I got into FC about a year ago, and have played exclusively squadron scale. I just feel that fleet scale battles would be over a little too soon, and I prefer the richer level of detail available at squadron scale. _________________ "Lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-yous" - Jeff 'The Dude' Lebowski. |

Or group started with SFB, so we prefer Squadron Scale, although we will switch to Fleet scale for really large battles or if the first game or two are complete and we don't have a lot of time remaining to play out another Squadron Scale battle. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

That is something I wanted to hear I am an SFB player. The rules are unfortunatly to intense to hold my wife's interest. |

I played SFB for many years and the squadron scale in FC just seems to be a natural fit. More true to the original plans and schematics, too. |

Gotta love that the game appeals to folks in both scales. I play primarily fleet scale (due to time constraints) but use squadron for duels if I have the time. _________________

As I often play solo, Fleet Scale is a great convenience.
I can play a duel in only a 15-30 minutes, allowing me to get my fix on a break in studying. Sure, ships pop like over-inflated balloons, but unless you are playing Orion that's kinda the point. |

Me, too [there's a rule for that, too ] - I feel Sqn scale gives a better 'feel' for the ships.
Carthaginian, you could always get a feel for Sqn scale ships by D/L ing some free ship cards in the Communiques - they're under 'Commanders' Circle' here: http://www.starfleetgames.com/federation/Commanders%20Circle/
And djdood's comment: "Gotta love that the game appeals to folks in both scales" is so relevant; just shows you how flexible the game system is.
Welcome aboard, btw _________________

LOL... I like squadron and SFB (have played off and on for almost 10 years), they are both just more time consuming and require an opponent to have the greatest fun. Fleet scale just fits my schedule better these days. |

We're group of old SFB hounds and we've pretty muched ditched Fleet Scale - even for our biggest games, we prefer Squadron. _________________ Famous last words #11: "That's a very big fleet!" |

I think we've always played Fleet since we started doing FC. _________________ "His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking."

I've only ever played Squadron Scale myself. Oh wait, no, that's a lie. I played Fleet scale once to demonstrate the game rules to a friend of mine. Then we played a bigger game with Squadron. |
