I tried painting the OCA as a tired old hulk, but I don't think I've pulled it off, what do you think.

"The engines... and the hull... and everything, canna tak it, Cap'n!"
The hull patches bring that 'tired old hulk' look together, David!

And that tops it off perfectly. Very nice, David!

Today,I decided to finally convert one of my original NCL's. The USS Nagato is getting her original engines replaced with ones of the correct length.
The new engines fitted and basic painted alongside the USS Virgil, the experimental NCL.

I'd like to suggest some trial stats for the Virgil,as she's not a fully fledged NCL,but rather an upgraded DD.
Use an NCL SSD with the following changes:- Shuttlebay only has TWO shuttles.
Shields:- #1 :-24pts;#2,#3,#4, all 20 pts each, which should approximate the midway point between the DD and NCL.
Let me know what you think.

I finally got around to painting the red engine stripes on both the NCL & prototype.

I remember years ago,I saw an experimental idea for an improved destroyer,in development, this was prior to the NCL design. What it involved was adding two small frigate engines to an existing DD.The premise behind this idea was that the ship would use her normal 15pt engine for travel purposes, and only engage the additional two 6pt engines when going into actual combat. Offhand,I cannot remember who's design idea this was,but I thought that it might make an interesting model to add to my collection. _________________ Federal Republic of Aurora fleet builder.

I took a tug hull, you could use a complete DD,added a spare 15pt engine, cut and fitted two small warp struts, and made two 6pt engines(16mm long). The ship has been put together, though I've still to do the engine detail, but it'll show you what she'll look like.
As you can see from the time stamps, this didn't take very long to do.

That is a really good build and an interesting idea for a ship. Excellent work as always. _________________ Let's get DANGEROUS!

I tried 'weathering' the ship, but I'm not too pleased with the result.(Shaky hand syndrome)
Now I really cheated. I'm using the sensor hole to mount the ship, so I thought that the best way to make a sensor dish, was to glue it to the stand, rather than the model. Once the model is pushed down onto the stand, it's not so obvious that it's not part of the model. Don't worry,I touched up the nacelle again.

For my next trick, well conversion anyway,I'm going to try the little Deckhouse Destroyer, but before I do,there are a couple of pertinant questions that need to be answered first.
a)What height is the deckhouse,i.e. is it higher than the bridge dome.
b)Going by the illustration, the deckhouse phasers are in the wrong place to be able to fire across decks so to speak. In their current position, they can only fire LS/RS. In order for them to fire as per the SSD,the phasers will need to be on the upper surface of the deckhouse.
Even though this version has a poorer breakdown rating than a standard DD, I really don't see why it wasn't followed up on. Both this version and Mike's version(HDD) would have made a valuable addition to the Fed fleet,by bolstering up the DD arm.
