Hi,

Old time SFB player and tinkered around with FC when it was first released. My son is showing interest in FC and briefing 2 interests me. Is there a listing of the ships in briefing 2 anywhere on the website? I would like to pick up some minis to paint while waiting for briefing 2's release.

Romulan: WVL, WE, BH, SNA, KRC, K7R, KR, K5C, K5R, K4R
Kzinti: DNE, CCE, CA, CS, CL, DD, FF, POL
Gorn: DNE, CC, CA, CL, DD, FF
Tholian: C, POL
Orion: CA, SAL, CR, LR
Hydran: TEM, LC, RN, LN, SAR, HU, GEN
Lyran: DNE, BCE, CC, CA, CL, DD, FF, POL
WYN: LDD, KE4, KG2, ZFF

There are a few more. The ship listing will also list any ship that is available, but published in another product. (E.g. Base Station and Starbase; Fed DN, CA, DD in future Booster 91.)

Don't have a list, but can relate to you that the ships will be earlier versions of ships in the current game ---

These will be unmodified ships, ie D-7 with smaller rear arc shield, drone racks which can only fire a drone from one rack a turn or Kzinti with LF/RF arc Disrupters ----

Right. All of the ships I listed above are, in the SFB terms, the unrefitted versions. So, there are no B, K, +, phaser, C, Y175, or whatever refits on any of them. The only exception I can think of is the Fed CAR.

Sorry to revive an older thread, but I just had a few quick questions.

Are most of the Hydran ships included the ones that have fusion cannons?
No Dragoon?
Are the Stingers going to be downgraded to Stinger-1s?
The RN is the Ranger, correct?

Paul: Yes, Fusion Beams rule the day...
Hellbores had not been invented as of the Middle Years, so no Dragoon.
The Stingers are indeed Stinger-1's.
RN is the Ranger.

The real problem with the hellbore ships is that hellbores would just break the setting. With those ridiculously thin shields on the Klingons, Lyrans, and Orions, the hellbore would just crush them. And, the way FC reinforcement works would just make it worse for those ships with shield #4 specifically the weakest shield (instead of being equal to #3 and #5).

So, irrespective of any introduction dates from SFB, the Dragoon and Knight just couldn't be used.

The Middle Years start about 2525 and go through ... sometime around 2558 which is when hellbores were invented. Hellbores are one of those "signal events" that mark the change from Middle Years to Main Era.

Ten of them.

(8B201) MAKE
WAR, NOT PEACE

In 2556, the Organians brokered a peace treaty between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. Around the same time, rumors started about two opposing commanders, eager to prove their prowess, who engaged in a shooting contest with asteroids as targets. A very young trivideo student, Olivette Roche, was convinced that Star Fleet was too militaristic; she “knew” this rumor was a cover-up for what really happened – two brash captains who wanted to start a war, but were prevented from doing so by the all-powerful Organians using their legendary mental abilities to halt the conflict. (Of course in reality, the Organians’ powers only extend a few light years from Organia.) For a class assignment, she created a brief trivideo about the conflict between the fictional command cruiser USS Murfreesboro and the D7C IKV Peaceslayer. Many of the themes in this early endeavor were repeated much later in Roche’s better known trivideo miniseries “The Last Fling”, which was broadcast on nearly every planet of the Federation (since, by then, Olivette Roche was a famous filmmaker). There were the beautiful and moral women executive officers pleading with the oversexed captains to stop the insanity and to “Make peace, not war.” This scenario is based on the recently restored trivideo project.

(8B202) BORDER
INCIDENT

The early stages of the Gorn-Federation alliance saw the Klingons trying to balance that out by delivering several converted Klingon cruisers and frigates to the Romulans. The initial shipment consisted of several KR and K5R ships, which the Romulans were eager to test in battle. The Romulans created an incident which allowed them to test these ships in an advantageous situation, by sending the BattleHawk Bloodwing to attack a Federation outpost and then flee into the Neutral Zone, chased by a Federation cruiser. This was a trap of course, as the KR Proconsul and KF5R Tribune were waiting to ambush the lone cruiser. Unfortunately for the Romulans, the Gorn heavy cruiser Sauricon was close enough to “crash” the party for the Romulans.

(8B203) ORION
ROULETTE

In 2546, following the disruption of the Klingon Empire caused by the assumption of the mantle of Emperor of the Klingon Empire by Keiron, the Orion Pirates began relentlessly pursuing their activities through-out the Empire knowing that soon enough, the tide would turn and they would once again become the hunted as opposed to the hunters,
As two E4s escorted a trio of Small Freighters to a Klingon base on the Hydran border, a bold, young Orion captain decided this was his chance to make a name for himself…

(8C204) Mercy
or Death

In 2538, early in the Second Federation-Kzinti War, the Federation was forced to evacuate many colonies near the Kzinti border to avoid having the colonists used as hostages. Police ships, Star Fleet ships, freighters, and (in one case) a Klingon ship were used to evauate these people.
The minor Federation colony world of Nashville posted a special problem. The colonists were infected with a local plague, and could only be evacuated by a ship with special quarantine facilities. The hospital ship Mercy was dispatched to answer the call, escorted by a police ship.
Two Kzinti frigates were detached from the main Kzinti offensive to destroy what they thought was easy prey, leaving the colonists trapped on their planet and held as hostages.

(8B205) Foxes
in the Henhouse

Romulan raids on Gorn planets and colonies were quite common long before the General War. The Romulan military treated these raiders as independent mercenaries that were quietly encouraged to cause as much economic chaos as possible, without the Romulan government getting blamed for it. Enough of these raids could leave the Gorns in a weaker condition at the start of the next war.
This scenario was unusual, in that while it was just another Romulan economic raid on a small Gorn agricultural world, it was an important world which the Gorns had protected by a strong force, and which the Romulans sent a powerful squadron to attack.

(8B206) HERE TODAY
... GONE TOMORROW?

Deep in the Old Colonies, the completion of new shipyards had allowed the Hydrans to finally produce enough warships to start reclaiming their lost territory from the Klingons and Lyrans.
This scenario depicts the opening phase of the Liberation, as a Hydran squadron tried to destroy a Lyran base station.
The Hydran commander decided to separate his fighters from his ships, and use the ships to draw the Lyrans away from the base, then send the fighters in to destroy it. Decades later, separating the fighters from the ships would be forbidden by Hydran tactical doctrine, but in this case, the Lyrans had never seen Hydran fighters and did not even realize they existed, so when their ships moved to intercept the Hydran ships, they did not know that the Hydrans had another card to play.

(8B207) THE
GRAVEYARD
OF SHIPS

While exploring an unknown area of the quadrant, your starship happens upon a group of wrecked ship hulls stuck in a negative-energy zone. As you come in closer ti investigate, several of the trapped ships attempt to ambush you!

(8B208) FLASHPOINT
MANTOR

For years Federation history students were taught that the Federation/Kzinti War of 2536-2542 began with an unprovoked Kzinti attack on the border outposts guarding the Neutral Zone between the two powers. The truth, as it so often is in history, was more complex than what was taught in the texts. Border disputes plagued relations between the two states for decades. One of the most dangerous disagreements, and the one which ultimately led to the first shots of the war, was over trading rights with the Mantorese, a neutral planet inside the Federation border (as declared in 2502; the Kzintis and Klingons did not recognize this border as valid). Corporations and intelligence agencies tried to control the Mantorese government through bribery, blackmail, kidnapping, and assassination.
The Federation Council, realizing that the situation was out of control and that war was imminent, ordered Star Fleet to evacuate all Federation citizens in the Mantor system. The cruiser Reshadije was dispatched on the direct orders of the Council, against the advice of Star Fleet Command, which wanted the powerful ship defending the border directly. She rendezvoused with the frigate Robert F. Kennedy (the police command ship for the sector), and the police cutter Malloy. As Captain Abdul Aziz of the Reshadije frantically tried to organize the evacuation, a Kzinti force arrived and started shooting.
Complicating matters even more was the arrival of a pair of Klingon ships in the system, for what purpose Captain Aziz did not know. And to complete the nightmare for Aziz, he had strict orders to use high restraint, since no formal declaration of hostilities had yet been issued by the Federation government.

(8B209) Local
Defense

This scenario happened hundreds of times over more than a century.

(8B210) military
convoy

This scenario happened many times during the various wars of the Middle Years. A huge convoy of fuel, spare parts, weapons, ground troops, and food would be formed and sent to the front lines.
If the enemy could detect such a convoy, they would try to send a raiding force behind the lines to attack it because destroying that convoy would reduce the frontline fleet to a powerless state, unable to move or fight.

Hurrah! Flashpoint Mantor is a great scenario (and one of my favorite pieces of SFU fiction). One of my CA's is planned to be done up this summer as the Reshadije, so it will be extra fun to play out.

I'll second that! That was a great piece of fiction and the scenario seemed great as a true 3 side battle with the unknown intention of the Klingons.

Good to see Border Incident there too. That one looked great from the moment I read it.

I second that. Just read it last week and it is a great fiction work. I have been looking for John Sickels' fiction pieces since your recommendation Djdood.

I was thinking on converting that SFB scenario to FC myself , but looks like that will no longer be necessary...

It is, in fact, arguable that the Klingon B-refits (the refit series that upgraded the shields) are the direct result of the introduction of the hellbores. Though it's not apparent in FedCom, Klingon and Lyran shields are built in such a way as to minimize the ability of hellbore cannons to damage the target ship in Starfleet Battles (In SFB, hellbore damage is split equally among the "weakest" shields as opposed to the FedCom practice of selecting a "more weakest" shield from among equally weak shields. The end result of that is that a ship with five weakest shields takes equal damage on all of its shields.).

So having hellbores would grossly unbalance the Hydrans.

But it's no big deal. REAL Hydrans only use Fusion Beams and Stingers anyway! And the fact that everyone has less power makes it easier for the Rangers and Stingers to close the range.
