In SFB (And FC too if it reaches here.) Were there Vulcan ships? And what were there weapons?

In SFB Module Y1 iirc there were two Vulcan ships, a cruiser with Ph-1s and a destroyer with Ph-3s.

In SFB, the Vulcan ships use Special Sensors and Phaser-1s, which is fairly unique and very powerful for the Early Years. If ever shown in Federation Commander, they obviously would not have the Special Sensors, and just use photons and Ph-1s. Which, for the Early Years, is pretty impressive.

Module Y2 added a couple other Vulcan ships, these without the special sensors, a light cruiser and a frigate.

posts pointing that out don't matter either...

And so that this post does matter, I've got a question: what did the Vulcan ships look like?

that would be a question the Prime Directive guys doing the Vulcan manual would have to answer --- at least till they become relevant in SFB/FC and someone designs them ---

There's a rough outline of one of the Vulcan ships in the art for an SFB scenario, called Different Romulans.

I forget where it was published, though.

(It had the Vulcans have a fatal run-in with a species-confused set of Gorns...)

Hey! That was mine!! Very Happy

Anyway, it is SL248 in CL33 (the Juggernaut issue).

If you really want a "feel" for the ship, get a Valentines Day Dove Promises heart shaped chocolate candy. The point is the tail of the ship, and there is another round point at the "V" at the top (so it has three bumps facing forward, instead of just two). Then stick on a pair of warp engine "sticks" on the underside. That should give you a round idea.

Again, the ships published in Y1 were the YVC (heavy cruiser) and YVD (destroyer). The YVC was a cruiser with special sensors and Ph-1s. The YVD was a destroyer with special sensors and Ph-3s. The ships published in Y2 were the WVL (light cruiser) and WVF (frigate), both armed with photons and Ph-1s. (The Y and W prefixes are confusing, but all are basically W-era ships.)

Anything published for Federation Commander would, of course, be armed with photons and Ph-1s. So, the WVL and WVF could be used as is; the other two would be the obvious unpublished photon-armed versions (i.e. a WVC and WVD with photons and Ph-1s instead of special sensors).

Now that you mentioned it, I noticed that all of the national guard ships in Y2 are given the W prefix whereas all those in Y1 are given the Y prefix.

Any reason for this?

Aside from, "It seemed like a good idea at the time of Y1, but now it does."? No.

Well, there is the Orion exception - who do get an actual 'true' Y-era ship or two in the mix.

Well, the Orions were handled differently, so they don't have the same issue. But, they do have a different issue: the WDR should probably really be the YDR (or YDD), as it is a Y-era ship.

And the Vulcans have an actual Y-era ship, too, the VDI. (The VDI was created because of a actual mistake. The printed SSD was given Y-era engines instead of W-era engines. So the published ship became the VDI, and the "real" YVD should have smaller W-era engines.) This implies that other ships (maybe the YVC, say?) potentially got some upgrades, too.

But the differing designations are because what was understood and intended about the Fed National Fleets when Y1 was published changed subtly by the time Y2 was published. Quite frankly, if we had it to do all over again, I am sure Y1 would be different. But none of this had really been thought of back then, so it was made the way it was made. At this point, they are what they are.
