Example: I have a Fed CA with overloaded photons. I want to fire my phasers at their energy, plus the overloads which can't use directed targeting. Am I allowed to do that?

No. Any volley which contains overloads is prohibited from using directed targeting.

No, I mean, can I fire two different volleys?

That will help, thanks!

One other question, can you purposely split the volleys for no apparent reason?

The way I read the referenced threads, you can't fire different volleys from the same ship against the same target in the same Impulse (one volley using directed targeting and the other not using it) if all the weapons being used could possibly use directed targeting (this would include photons).

Correct.

If you (a single ship) are firing overloads and phasers (or overloads and normal loads) in the same impulse at the same target, they are done in a single volley that cannot use directed targetting.

The only time you (a single ship) get to use two different volleys at the same target in the same impulse is if your fire includes ESGs or hellbores, which are restricted from using directed targetting.

Well, not the answer I was hoping for, but thanks for clearing that up. Smile

As an addition to Mike West's post, shield crackers are also always a separate volley, because they only affect shields.
