Would the D5W be the Klingon's version of a NCA?

Yes.

My question: Did this need to be a separate topic?

If the D5W is essentially an NCL (Klingon Version) why do most people say it is better then the D7? Just a question.

Is it an NCL? I thought Steve confirmed it was an NCA. I prefer the D5W because it's phasers are mostly updated to PH1 and the firing arcs on all phasers and disruptors is just to die for. Complete with decent power, great turn mode.

The D5W is the class-equivalent of the Federation NCA, not the NCL.
The D5 (no W) is the class-equivalent of the Federation NCL.

Most people would rather take the D5 (no W) instead of the D7 because they intend to sabre-dance with it. The D5 has ridiculously wide disruptor arcs (210 degrees, instead of just 120 degrees) and one more Ph-1 (it has fewer overall phasers, but more Ph-1s). These give a big advantage in performing a sabre-dance. The weaknesses of a D5 compared to a D7 (fewer internals, fewer transporters) only matter in a close-in fight, which is intended to be avoided with maximum effort. Then add in that the D5 is significantly cheaper than the D7, and you have an easy choice.

In short, most people would take a D5 over a D7 because they plan to use its strengths and its disadvantages are irrelevant to their tactics.

The D5W is easily better than the D7 because it has all of the advantages that the D5 does, but also gets much of the "bulk" of the D7, too. I don't think anyone would bother to argue that the D5W isn't better than the D7. The only issue there is potentially the cost. I don't remember what the point value of the D5W is.

The D5W is 148, iirc, which puts it on par with most of the other heavy cruisers.

In squadron scale the D5 is 118 and the D5W is 148. So yeah, huge point difference actually.

Given the 30 point difference, I can imagine many players would take the D5 over the D5W, much less the D7. (Depending on what the force total was, of course.)

Is a 210 degree arc even possible MW?

Don't you mean 240?

210 is possible. for the D5 it is FH + L/R.

Another reason the D5 is so good is it's improved sheilds (though that's not technically correct; It's the same generator covering a smaller area.)

The D-5W is a mean machine (especially for it's cost). My main opponent swears by it (I swear at it).

His D-5W Blood Vengeance (represented by a customized ancient FASA D-22 mini) has survived at least four engagements now, by weird twists of fate.

The Fed CS seems to make a decent opponent for the D-5W. I prefer it over the NCA in that match up (but only slightly).

I love my Fed NCA USS Legacy, which has fought in one battle (vs. a Lyran CA since I didn't have the CC at that time) and emerged victorious. I love those 360 ph-1's! they were the reasons I won that game.

I seem to remember that ships could transfer control of drones between ships, in SFB. Are ships in FC able to do this, or am I wrong about SFB.
