Cool stuff as always Dale. I espically like your new Orions and the Kzintis (long time favorites).
I can hear Jeff L now..."Sky Blue Feds!" _________________ Check out my website at: http://www.jgray-sfb.com/

LOL, yeah, that was actually Bannon Campbell that said that. Jeff was just quoting him.
What can I say, except I was matching my Micromachines and going off the cover of CL #10, for example...
I've stripped the earliest of my Feds and repainted them, but not the later/better blues. Besides, I have too dang many and I'm just not that ambitious...
I'll have to get some more Kzintis up sometime. |

I'll echo the above and say "Gosh dang", those are really nicely done. I especially like that deep dark red for the Kzinti. _________________

Thanks man!
The key to the Kzintis is the wash. Bright red base coat, dark red (almost maroon or brown) diluted wash. I do a similar job with my Hydrans, only there I'm using Space Wolves Gray as the basecoat and Regal Blue as the diluted wash.
Since you all like my Zin, figured I'd upload a few more:
Here's a Kzinti CL and DD, two of my favorites.
The Kzinti battle tug!
And of course, a Kzinti BATS:
Lastly, another Mike Raper kitbash, a Kzinti BB. This was done years before the production mini became available. I think it follows the original illustration of the ZBB more closely, but I'd have to look it up to be sure.
All the detail on the dorsal hull is hand-drawn and painted, so don't blame Mike if the lines aren't straight. |

Very cool Dale. I'm hoping to get my Kzintis at least base-coated before the end of summer. I have them all prepped, just need time and good weather to prime and base-coat. _________________

Dale, the production Kzinti BB ended up looking quite a bit different:
Mike's kitbash looks great. Not sure which I really like better. _________________ Check out my website at: http://www.jgray-sfb.com/

That's a nice BB, J.
I think Mike's is "wider" but the production model is "thicker" or "taller". I know the thing is not very thick top-to-bottom (Mike's version)... |

OK, enough of this love for the Kzin. The Lyrans grow jealous. They will have their time in the spotlight, oh yes.
And here's the short-haired kittehs, starting with the Lyran BC. The "Homeworld" paint scheme was based on art by Ted Geibel.
And here's the BC with its progenitor, the CL, done in the same paint scheme:
The Lion dreadnought:
Tiger CA:
Tug:
Destroyer and Frigate:
War Cruiser and War Destroyer:
And the "One big, happy fleet!":

Love the Homeworld and Dark Stars minis Dale.
If anybody wants to see more of Dale's Tigers, check out the pictures I posted over in "SWO_Daddy's Miniatures". Years ago, when Dale and I both lived within a couple hours of each other, he was nice enough to paint me a squadron of 4. So nice in fact that as far as I know, Dale only has one "Tiger" in his own collection. Great momentos from my time in Monterey, and the fear of anyone who meets them on the battle map. _________________ Check out my website at: http://www.jgray-sfb.com/

Thanks guys!
Yeah, I only have the one "tigerstripe" cruiser. Jeremy's got the only other ones I ever did.
Glad you like the Andros, Dan. Sooner or later you'll see what my old ones looked like. The new ones are a distinct improvement, at least I think so... |

OK, Dan, since nobody likes Hydrans...
I figured I'd upload mine.
Here's my Hydran fleet, ready for action.
The Hydran Ranger (or Lord Bishop, or what have you):
Lancer and Hunter:
Paladin DN:
CW and DW:
And lastly, the D7H Anarchist in all its glory:

I like your hull paint on these Dale. They have a kind of shimmery, alien quality to them. Very suitable for bizzaro, truly alien aliens like the Hydrans.
Nice saturated white on the marking-bands too. _________________

Thanks fellas. I was heavily inspired by Starfleet Command (the game) and the art of Ted Geibel. I decided to go with all white striping for my Hydrans, mostly due to SFC. Laying the stripe down atop the hull was challenging at times. I've found it's better to do the hull, then give it a quick coat of gloss, before adding the white (prevents any bleeding - I got some light purple stripes without that).
I used to do the Hydran lettering with a brush (as seen in the fleet pics) but later switched to using a fine drafting pen (as seen on the Anarchist).
The base coat was Space Wolves Grey, and then it was washed in diluted Regal Blue. |
