From my friend Paul whom I taught FC to this last Saturday: "Fred, I think it is in my best interests to shoot you now." Sadly, my Light DN didn't survive.
Let's hear yours! |

"How can I roll four sixes on four dice. That's got to be statistically impossible" - my favorite opponent, about this time last year.
If it had been four one's, he wouldn't have done anything other than celebrate. _________________

In best Arnold, terminator-style accent...
"One hunnert points of plasma!"
Said to me, by Joe Butler as he grabbed me with a tractor and unloaded his Gorn Ca into my flank shield. I had miscalculated movement points/firing due to previous experince with SFB... I never did that again! _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

"Damn! Why do I never roll numbers like that!"
Said by my son Dave when my Fed frigate connected his F5 with two photon hits at range 12 hexes...... _________________

So my friend says to me after our last game:

From my kid brother, during an SFB game right after plotting a huge speed increase at the turn break:
"And in a puff of smoke, he was gone!"
He was thinking that his D7 was going to "disappear in a cloud of dust like a cartoon character running real fast" and get out of range before the Fed could rearm. Sadly for him, the reason the Fed CA was moving at slow speed for the past three turns was he was holding four overloaded photons. The first impulse the Klingon moved put it back into the Fed's FA arc. Ouch. Yes, in a puff of smoke, he was gone. Just not the way he expected to..... _________________ Garth L. Getgen

Not SFB / Fed Cmdr, but "Victory In the Pacific".
My opponent, before the game: "This game's stupid! There's no way for the Japs to win."
Same person, after the game in which I played the Japs: "Dang! There's no way for the American's to win this game." _________________ Garth L. Getgen

Then there's always the Federation and Empire, Four Powers War scenario from Origins 2008 whihc generated one of the most oft repeated quotes in the SFU:
I was playing the Lyrans and every single attack into Hydran space failed... miserably, while evry Hydran attack into Lyran space was an over-whelming success.
After taking 100+ ships into the 2nd starbase hex, fighting dozens of battle rounds, and finally retreating a grand total of 2 uncrippled and 5 crippled from the still existent SB, I was heard to exclaimn; "those Low-down, dirty-rotten, methane-breathing, trashcan-looking Hydrans!!!" _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Been there. My quote for that game would be, "The ships aren't important, the POC are". Problem is, without ships you can gather no POC (that's Points of Control, sorta like victory points).
Took us several months to work it out, but VITP is probably the most finely balanced 'historical' wargame I have ever seen. With the exception of 'Diplomacy', of course....
Sorry for the game-wander, but it is 'quotes from the gaming table'. _________________

Well, as we're at the gaming table, I guess I can include a quote from Silent Death using Star Wars ships. Having been completely outflown and rolled all of the worst dice possible, one of the opposition pilots gets her Tie Fighter into a perfect position to finish me off. Just before she rolled the final dice I was forced to yell "You can't win Squeak - even if you strike me down I will become stronger than you can ever imagine". Despite the guffaws around the table, she still fired, and my X-Wing still disintegrated around me.... _________________ Nothing is quite as persuasive as a disruptor pistol on slow burn and a rotisserie...... |

After connecting with a fleet-wide alpha strike of narrow salvoed photons in SFB...

Oh, and from a heated campaign debate with my buddy Jeff Lorenzen...
"Consider my heals dug in!"
Happened almost 9 years ago and Dale McKee will not let me forget it. _________________ Check out my website at: http://www.jgray-sfb.com/
