I took a Kzinti BB and added 8 fighters into the cargo spaces to make a BBV. Unfortunately, I got jumped by The Federation fleet, who I thought was going to be an allie against the Tholian fleet. The Tholian brought a CA, DD, FF, & corvette (IIRC) and the Fed brought a CA & 2 NCL.
The Tholians lost a CA, FF, & corvette and the Feds took a little damage, but to the Tholians credit, he engaged and stayed engaged; the Feds did a hit and run, the run which lasted for two turns while repairing damage. As the Tholian was disengaging (after three turns in a very hot place), the Feds reengaged. They did an Alpha strike against my #4 shield and blew it down with a few internals. I proceeded to disengage as I had four other shields banged up and needed to reload drones.
Why I am writing this is to say that I have fallen in LUV with the Z-BBV! That ship is a dream come true! I am now hoping that we always play high point cost games. I would love to see what an Aegis class light cruiser, or even a frigate, could do in such an environment! Sigh! _________________ HoD K'el

Actually that is just a BB in SFB, the 6 fighters were deleted when the BB was moved to FedCom. A BBV would have atleast 12 fighters and a Stellar Domain Ship, a Battleship set up as a Space Control Ship, would Have 12 Fighters and 6 Gunboats. Just pointing out that there is stuff that was left out of Fed Com and Glad you liked the fight. _________________ -Dal

Hod K'el, Aegis rules are in Hydran Attack and the latest version of the CRUL. To the best of my knowledge, the only "escort" ships currently in the system are the Gorn CLE, Romulan SparrowHawk-E (both in Briefing #1) and the Klingon E5E (from Captain's Log). The two plasma ships have phasers, heavy torpedoes, and plasma-D racks; the E5E has Federation-style hybrid drone/ADD racks and phasers. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue

Doesn't matter...I used Mike West's rule for placing fighters onto the BB to make it a BBV. He said convert cargo to hanger bays, so...since it has 8 cargo boxes, I gave it 8 hanger bays. He said something about that is what they are looking at for BoM.
But this brings up something else. I have founf that fighters get chewed up pretty good in combat. Out of 8, I got 2 back and both were crippled. I also did not have enough time in the game to repair the fighters since my damage control teams were busy repairing ship systems. If I have fighters, do my deck crews act as damage control for the fighters? _________________ HoD K'el

There are no deck crews in Federation Commander, so you'd have to use the ship's repair system to repair boxes on the fighters, same as you do with shuttles. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue

That's what I thought...so the question then becomes, why do I not get a bonus for damage control parties for the express purpose of repairing the fighters? (not well thought out, huh?) So is it going to change in BoM? _________________ HoD K'el

I suggest you propose that as a rule change on the Discus board. It may change when the eventual BoM rules come out, the BoM stuff is still playtest if I understand correctly.
It's actually easier to repair fighters in FC, I believe. Your BBV could, theoretically, repair up to 8 points of damage on a single fighter in a single turn, even if the fighter only landed at the end of the turn. Can't do that with deck crews in SFB! And the ship's damage control is far less generous too. If your ship is facing off against twice its point cost it's going to get damaged, as it did in that fight. Realistically, a BBV would have had three Aegis escorts I think. That would have taken some of hte heat off the carrier. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue
