|
|
Dear Friends,
Sorry if this has been raised and answered elsewhere, but here goes: to what extent, if any, does the "Mirror Universe" as per the ST: TOS episode "Mirror Mirror" episode exist in the SFU ?
If not, will it be possible to explore the Mirror Universe (ergo Empire versions of UFP vessels), within the parameters of the SFU - Paramount license ? If we have to be careful, we could even establish a different parallel universe, with a different name, but same general idea.
Also, I know we have to avoid mention of many if not most elements of ST:TOS, but what is the SFU Canon's take on what constitutes the history Earth's 20-21st centuries ? Are we to quietly assume the ST Canon (Eugenics Wars, Khan, etc) or are we to assume actual events to date ?
And another: what is the Terran year equivalent of SFU "Year 1" ?
Thanks !

The possibility was discussed to some length on the Legacy BBS.

SFU year 1 is actually not precisely known (by definition in the SFU).
For SFB and F&E it is somewhere between 2020 and 2090.
It is arbitrarily established as year 2400 for Federation Commander (a bit later than the normal cannon TOS timeline, but who's counting). _________________ O.G. OPTIMUS

The year of First Contact is placed at 2400 in the 'Valkenburg Chronology', or in 2063 according to the rival 'Amin-Audeh Chronology'.
As noted above, FC tends to go with the Valkenburg version of things. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

Thanks guys !
But may I pose one of my questions again - what are we to assume as to the nature of the 20th / 21st century in the SFU - the ST-TOS history of the Eugenics Wars, with Colonel Green and Khan, OR events as they have actually transpired to date, or what ?
Thanks again !

As SVC has stated that the Red Storm Rising variant of the Clancy-verse (wherein there was a NATO-WP war in the late 20th century and NATO won) does indeed form part of SFU history, wouldn't it be cool to postulate Soviet refugees fleeing Earth in sleeper ships ala the Khan Eugenics exiles - and eventually forming a pocket interstellar empire intent on on wreaking havoc on the UFP !?
Watch out UFP, here comes the Union of Soviet Socialist Systems !!! Beware, Starfleet, of the Kosmoflot...... |

Funny . But it might offend someone and lose ADB sales or even get a lawsuite filed. |

Why would space communists get a lawsuit filed or offend anyone? |

ST:TOS seemed to have several human-occupied, mostly English-speaking planets 'discovered' by the USS Enterprise.
In one episode, conflict between the primitive tribes calling themselves the Khoms and the Yangs turned out to be (suprise suprise) a local continuation of WWIII, complete with a tattered Stars and Stripes and a garbled version of the US constitution. It wasn't *stated* that these people were the descendants of colonists from Earth, but any other interpretation seems unlikely.
There may have been a diaspora from Earth before StarFleet was founded, with groups of colonists leaving by sublight or FTL ships for their own religious/political/tax avoidance/whatever reasons.
Some came to grief; some re-established contact with Earth; some were unable or unwilling to. Makes a fertile backdrop for SF stories! _________________ We are Hydrans! NO ONE LIKES US! |

This...
Really, why should there be a lawsuit for having a NATO-WP War? That's not really something you can compromise. _________________ "The good of the many outweighs the good of the few"

According to the provisional data published in the playtest SFB Module E2, there is at least one group of pre-Y1 humans who end up... somewhere.
According to the timeline in E2, a Terran colony caravan had been heading towards a planet within eight parsecs of Earth before they were caught in some kind of special anomaly in -Y12 (or 2388 if you go by the Valkenburg Chronology) - after which they ended up stranded in the distant Triangulum Galaxy. They find a new colony world two years later, and eventually sign a "Warp Pact" with an elder species called the Helgardians in Y14 (2414).
As an aside, the Helgardians aren't indigenous to 'our' M33 Galaxy either. Their home system had been mysteriously displaced from their home universe roughly a thousand years before Y1.
(I really hope the Triangulum setting gets a chance to be shown off in a full module one day...)
On the subject of space-versions of old Earth realms, there are other settings, like Iron Stars and Battletech, which do that already. (They handle them in different ways, though - IS looks at Edwardian-era empires spun off into an alternate timeline, while BT has realms which, in some cases, are deliberately 'inspired' by historical antecedents).
While the concept has its place, I'm not too sure how far I'd want to see it go in the Star Fleet Universe... but you never know. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

Battletech would be a good example -- but that Universe/Dimension had no cultures other than Terran ---
Voyager ran into several planets with Humans who where transported from earth by "aliens" --- Enterprize ran across a couple who got out there by slow freighter --- |
