|
|
Hi,
since ADB have published à free printable tutorial on his FC homepage, it would be à good thing if a basic-rule online animated tutorial was made. Maybe it represents a lot of work and you can't afford it, but it would be so useful, first to permit rookies graduate faster, secondly to make the game more communicable on the web and for retailers.
Maybe on YouTube.
Actually, to tell you the truth, here in France players could be interested in the game but i'm working hard to exlpain them the rules. And when we go further, in final steps they do want to read and understand the rules by themselves. A tutorial could help.
I'm on a french basic-rule translation, but it's not enough. |

I have no idea how such a tutorial would be done, but if somebody can figure it out, we'll look into it.
If you finish your French translation of the FC rules, do let us know and we'll arrange to make it available to Francophone players everywhere. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

there is an easy way.
One way is to take a camera and adjust it on a tripod so that it overviews a simple 2 by 2 map. The person can easily do a voiceover and when a move is made, the video will be stopped, the ship moved, and then started again. This will make it look like it was an animation. When showing ship cards and allocation, you could scan it and show what would be marked etc. _________________ We are the ISC! NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IT STANDS FOR!! |

I used to make such demos for a living. (its even quite possible to make interactive Flash simulations of a turn or two of play)
Perhaps the simplest way to go about it would be to use some screen capture software (such as FRAPS) and record a session of FCOL that can be converted to Flash.
You also have someone created a script that has all the talking points for the demo, and then have a speaker narrate over the the edited version of the screen caps, and explain what is going on.
Its a format that works well if you want to have a series of demos to go over various game topics, and can be done pretty quick and cheap too as its not manpower intensive.
You would not use it to demonstrate an entire game, but it is useful to demonstrate a complete turn or two of play and show all the absic concepts (and you can cut out the parts where no actions are being taken).
It can also be used as a form of video workshop to explain tactics, and game mechanics too. _________________ If you are local to the Kitsap, Jefferson, Peirce, Thurston or Mason County area in Western, WA state, feel free to PM me about getting a SFB/FC group going. |

I still have no idea how that would be done. I think you should be talking to someone other than me (maybe Mike S or Joel) who understands the terminology. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

Nothing in this topic is actionable information.
If and when somebody provides that, or just does this thing, fine, until then, nothing I can do. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

here: this is an earlier post i made.
one way is to take a camera and adjust it so it overviews a 2 by 2 map. then, take a picture of it all set up
2 frigates (one federation other klingon) will be scanned and showed as a picture.
when a move is made, a new picture is taken. _________________ We are the ISC! NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IT STANDS FOR!! |

I don't know about you guys, but I like the vids ADB has been posting on youtube for Starfleet Marines Attack. At least there is something done. Why does it have to be so fancy? Just something that gets the point across. |

Well, that's about what it is if someone not familiar with it is watching. _________________ Mike
