I'm on holiday for a fortnight from this xmas weekend. That makes finding a time to play with those on the other side of the pond a lot easier.
Anyone up for arranging any online games over that period?

I'll probably be available on Monday or Tuesday next week (27th and 28th), but not until the evening (6:30pm pacific time).

About 2:30AM my time then.
I'll pencil in tuesday (wednesday for me) if that is ok with you, and if my other half has no plans for Wednesday - when I'll probably be in bed by the sounds of it
See how I fly under conditions of extreme tiredness |

I'm a complete newb to FCOL, and about two years rusty when it comes to Federation Commander. However, I don't have to work until January and the wife and son are leaving tomorrow and will be gone until at least Thursday. So, I should have plenty of time to play during the coming week, if anybody is up for it. |

Any preference to what you want to play.
My last couple of games have been multi player free for alls, so I'd personally rather play a simpler 2 sided affair even if we have more than 2 players. If there are 3 of us I'll be the one or part of a twosome, I'm easy. If there's 4 of us then 2 on 2 is good. |

I'll look through some scenarios and see if something jumps out. Off the top of my head, Landing Party (SH50 from SFB S1), Rescue the Supply Tug (SH135 from SFB S2), and Treasure Ship (SG33 from SFB S1) are good ones (that easily work in FCOL), but there are a ton of options.

Pine, sorry you'll miss it. We'll have to plan a game soon. |

I don't have any SFB stuff.
If you can find a scenario you want to try then I'm ok with that. Other wise I'm sure we can just blow each other up. |

Had a good game last nigt/morning. Brief overview of our game. I was tired by 4:00 in the morning, so I might be misremembering some bits, I'm sure Gar will fill in (though don't mistake Federation propaganda for facts).
Gar and I played a scenario, the Fed (OCL) had to rescue some 'people' from a planet and leg it, There was a klingon in the area (D6). Tractors were non functional due to some climatic conditions. The Fed scored bonus points for not shootng at the klingon (hah, yeah!).
The Klingon (me) moved out to inspect the interloper and peacefully escort it out of the area.
The Federation, in a blatant display of hypocrisy/violation of their general orders opened up with partial overloaded photons and a few phasers at range 7 as I approached. Kudus to his gunnery training, the klingons shield was blown away and a variety of systems went off line.
Realising we were dealing with an aggressive intruder who had just engaged in a clear act of war, we closed the range and ordered up a serving of 4 overloaded disrupters and plenty of phasers, the order was given a second time as it appeared my weapons officer was slow to respond. Unfortunately it transpired the first order had been carried out, the effect had just been so negligable I hadn't noticed! Did we even score a burnthrough?!?!? Was I in command of a cruiser or a penal ship?
Drones were launched and we pulled round as the Fed zipped past. There was some fire exchanged as we chased the Fed towards the planet, again my vessel was rocked by decent phaser fire whilst the Fed damage control teams were left replacing a fuse on the CAT scanner in the medical lab.
The Fed droppped shields and beamed aboard 2 sets of mutinous civilians whom the empire will be better without anyway. However, he still had to get round the other side of the planet to picky up the rest.
We closed in fast in behind him, I was still confident that if I could deliver a decent blow as he picked up the last gaggle of traitors then I would be able to do decent damage pursuing from the scene, and hence put up a good showing in the end.
The Fed did not wish to move far past the planet (edge of map syndrome) as he pulled round, and I correctly predicted the HET with power for overloaded photons and 6 centerlined Ph1s, avoiding that exchange. I finally dropped a shield with phasers, and the fed was left dealing with 4 drones. Here again the training of his gunners were proving their worth - the ADD and phasers casually swatted them down over 2 impulses.
I arc'd round as best I could with 2 Fed drones still following me from earlier in the battle, as the fed closed on the other side of the planet and picked up the undeserving scum waiting. Disrupter shots hit the fed through his downed rear shield, but couldn't do enough to actually damage him through his armor.
At that point the Fed turned and disengaged into Klingon space! whilst I was expecting him to head back the way he had come with me in pursuit. (doh...check where the other guy can disengage from next time).
On points I lost badly. It was certainly interesting using such older ships. The lack of Ph1s and the missing wing phasers is more annoying than it first appears. The first exchange really set to the tone though, I had been prepared for the fact that Gar might get lucky and do mid 30s damage on the first pass if he took the shot I offered, as it was not likely to badly affect my return the following impulse. He did get lucky! I was less prepared for just how bad I did in return, the game wasn't really long enough for me to pull it back from there. Gar's drone defenses were good, as well, his ADD and ph3s not failing any of the 1-4 rolls they made. The downer at the end was that he was able to disengage from the map edge that was only about 6 hexes from the planet, and I was expecting that he had to go out the way he came in. My bad, though I don't know what I'd have done even if I had realised that up front. The entire game lasted only 3 turns. |

That is a great summary. I love it!
We played Landing Party (SH50 from SFB S1 and 8B108 from FC Briefing #1). I certainly did get extremely lucky with my photon rolls. I usually miss the broadside of a barn with those (as many who have played with me can confirm, I'm sure). I guess this time my gunner was on the ball. It would totally go a different way next time.
Yeah, I agree that the Fed should have to disengage from the same side of the map that he starts on. Seems a little cheap that he can just quickly jump off right by the planet (I never realized that before).
I had a blast, thanks again for staying up late to play. We'll have to do a rematch sometime soon (with the revised disengagement rule).
