I was inspired by the earthtones in the Kzinti CG artwork posted by Furyofaseraph to create a new Kzinti paint scheme.
I liked my previous all-red Kzinti but I wanted to add some variety to the fleet.
I wanted to show here the raw paint scheme; pre-decal, pre-dullcoat.
The basecoat is Tamiya Mica Red spray. Then I used Tamiya Desert Yellow & Brown bottles.
The images of the finished ships are posted in the Starline 2400 Miniatures: Painting Examples -> Kzinti Hegemony Fleet thread.

Very nice. I love the contrast you get with the earth tones. _________________ O.G. OPTIMUS

The trim work really brings out the shape and lines of the ship nicely. _________________

Thanks!
I am inspired to try some patterned Klingons next spring after it warms up again (I do my priming, base coats, dull coats outside). |

Is there any kind of "artistic" benefit to that, or is that just how you prefer to work? |

I can't speak for him, but anything involving aerosols or using an airbrush is best done in a well-ventilated space, preferably outside. And when it's warmer, I've found tat the paint not only dries faster, but it has more of a tendency to spread out evenly and not bead up or stay in drops on the miniature. _________________ O.G. I also do all of my spraying (primer, paint, gloss/dull coats) outside in my yard for the best ventilation.
The sprays I use generarlly recommend temperatures above 50 degrees or 70 degress (depending upon the can). Warmer temperatures do seem to give better results for me too. |

My wife was able to take some nicer pictures of the finished miniatures.
(I was not happy with the pictures that I took that I had posted before.)
I have an idea for another more radical Kzinti alternate paint scheme that I will try this coming spring/summer.
Here is a view of the 2 tone browns on the bottom of the ships which I did not post before; Desert Yellow along the lower edges of the command section and Brown on the secondary hull around the shuttlebay.
Here is a more traditional upper view:
I posted addtional pictures over on the Starline 2400 Miniatures: Painting Examples -> Kzinti Hegemony Fleet thread |

These show my 3rd Kzinti paint scheme (brown base color). I took my previous scheme, reversed the red and dark brown to create a 'negative' version.
