Captain's Log #13 Now Available from Multiple Sources

"Service in Star Fleet is two years of boredom and an hour of stark screaming terror."

Captain's Log #13 compiles the best of the material from the old Nexus Magazine.

"The Glory of the Heroes" is about a Federation base that is overwhelmed by a Romulan attack.

Information (which is now the Communications section) includes Convention winners, Origins reports from 1984-1987, staff awards, Klingon battlecruisers, Why, proposals board, Kommodore Ketrick, Ten Classic Questions, Speeding up SFB, and how BPV works.

Scenarios include (SP1701) Carrier Escorts, (SP80) Attack!, and (SP222) Eradication.

The tactics section includes Term Papers, Frigate Squadrons, In the Heat of Battle, and Ask Uncle Ardak.

The Academy compiles the classroom sessions (the professor asks questions of cadets with names suspiciously like the guys on the BBS) including the first session, Spencer's Gambit, Captain K, Expanding Spheres, Plasmas, Cloaks, Drones, Andromedans, the Coalition Brotherhood Banquet, Sending Gerard Home (Orion Tactics), Webs, the ISC, Mid-Term Review, and The Tactics Board.

Federation & Empire includes Q&A, Tactical Notes, Combat Missions, The ISC in F&E (18 years before they finally got published in ISC War!), and two scenarios.

Captain's Log #13 supports Star Fleet Battles and Federation & Empire.

This was scanned from the best available copy.

Captain's Log #17 Now Available from Multiple Sources

The General War was the largest and longest conflict ever fought in the Milky Way Galaxy. Volumes have been written on every aspect of the war; this brief outline is intended as a general guide for further research into the subject.

When this 96-page issue was published in June of 1995, nobody knew that Task Force was in deep trouble and would soon be reduced to a very dim light before going completely dark. The format of the time was 96 pages "plus something" and the something in this issue was a sheet of extra tournament counters.

HISTORY includes "A Brief History of the General War," as well as information about the Galactic Intelligence Agency's awards, Seltorian rank structure, and the Star Fleet report on Kumerian's Red Fleet.

DATABASE (which became the commo section in later issues) includes conventions, rated aces, Input Guide, Why, Proposals Board, Kommodore Ketrick, After Action Review, Command the Future, several rules examples, Battle Force 500, a scenario workshop, Ten Questions, humor, and a play aid for planetary invasions.

UNIVERSE (which later became venues) includes Arcturians in Prime Directive, new missions for Star Fleet Missions, an article on miniatures, reports on Star Fleet Warlord, and background on artist Dan Carroll.

SCENARIOS includes 10 new ones (SL157-166.)

TACTICS includes information about terrain, information about mine warfare, Term Papers, Victory at Origins 94, and Ask Uncle Ardak.

FEDERATION & EMPIRE includes Q&A, Tactical Notes, a Federation play aid card, the original F&E combat system, Seltorians in F&E, and a scenario about the Eastern Theater.

New ships include fast cruisers for the Federation and Klingons, heavy destroyers for the Kzintis and Lyrans, six cadet ships, and Federation squadrons for new strike carrier group and a new light cruiser squadron.

A special feature was the supplemental tournament countersheet; an image of it is included with the PDF.

This was scanned from the best available copy.

Captain's Log #18 Now Available from Multiple Sources

Mgroth's first true memories were of the stars.

This 1999 issue marked the birth of ADB, Inc. as the publisher of the Star Fleet Universe. It was 112 pages long. We didn't even have a company logo yet, and just put the initials in a red box on the cover! Because this issue had to go to press as soon as possible, it has a lot more fiction than normal (and three Victory At articles).

HISTORY includes three fiction stores: A Dragon's Story, Romulan Raid, and A Friend in Need. Also included are a military rank comparison chart and some universe notes.

DATABASE (which became the commo section in later issues) includes conventions, an introduction to the new company, input guide, After Action Reports on recent products, Command the Future (schedule of future releases), Proposals Board, Why, Ten Questions, Ask Kommodore Ketrick, and Humor.

UNIVERSE (which later became venues) has articles on Star Fleet Warlord, the Paravians in SFB, the Vudar in SFB, and revised tournament ships.

SCENARIOS includes seven new ones (SL167-SL173).

TACTICS includes an article on Andromedans, term papers, Patrol victory at Origins 94, Victory at Eurogencon 95, Victory at Origins 96, The Andro Conspiracy, and Ask Uncle Ardak.

FEDERATION & EMPIRE includes news, Q&A, plans for new product development, combat trials, the Militant ISC option, Tactical Notes, Hydran Liberation Scenario, a preview of the Admirals rule, and the map for Sector G.

TWELVE NEW SHIPS include the Klingon C4 and F4, Orion early destroyer, Federation early frigate, four Federation ships built as hybrid carriers (Hydran Style!), WYN version of a Klingon D5 and Kzinti CM, Hydran carrier group SSD, Lyran war cruiser scout, Romulan and Gorn light dreadnoughts, Andromedan Conquistador-mauler and X-technology Python.

This has been scanned from the best available copy.

Captain's Log #19 Now Available from Multiple Sources

INTRUDER UNIT LOCATED. THIS UNIT ENGAGING.

This October 1999 issue showed that the new ADB, Inc. had hit its stride as the publisher of the Star Fleet Universe. It was 112 pages long. We finally had a company logo (which did not change for 12 years).

HISTORY included the fiction story "Another Point of View" about Kzinti-Federation relations. Also included was an article on Romulan military ranks and one on Lyran politics.

COMMUNICATIONS appeared as a department for the first time, as we divided the old Database chapter into two parts. This included updates on conventions, the Input Guide, After Action Reports, WHY?, the Proposals Board, Ask Kommodore Ketrick, and an article about how to stay in touch with ADB, Inc.

VENUES appeared for the first time as a new chapter to cover things outside the main published games. This time there were articles on Star Fleet Warlord, Play-by-Email, Galactic Conquest, SFB Online, and Starfleet Command, all things that have appeared in the Venues chapter of every subsequent issue. Also included was a Victory At article by Sandy Hemenway about a tournament held on SFBOL.

DATABASE continued as a place to publish a lot of stuff for Star Fleet Battles and some other things. This issue included an update for the Vudar, an article on Prime Directive, the new Yitlian warrior species, the return of the Starline 2400 miniatures, Battle Force 600, an article on the Omega Sector, a short story from Omega, and the Brothers of the Anarchist (the first of what became a very long series).

SCENARIOS include four new ones for Star Fleet Battles (SL174-SL177).

TACTICS included Victory at Origins Patrol 1998 by Andrew Dederer and several pages of Term Papers.

FEDERATION & EMPIRE included news about the upcoming Advanced Operations, Rules & Rulings, Scenario (697) The Second Federation-Kzinti War, a preview of some material from Total War, a file of War Plans, Tactical Notes, and Economic Notes.

NEW SHIPS for SFB included 10 for Omega, two for the Vudar, two brothers of the Anarchist, and several others from player submissions.

Captain's Log #20 Now Available from Multiple Sources

Every Star Fleet ensign dreamed of this moment: command of a starship.

This June 2000 issue was inspired by a piece of cover art that Andy Goodwin submitted. We liked it so much that we had a contest to write a story to match it, and printed the best three stories. It was 112 pages long.

HISTORY included the three stories (and nothing else; the stories took up 21 pages).

COMMUNICATIONS continued as a department. This included conventions, tournaments, awards, After Action, Command the Future, Dirty Little Secrets of Mail Order, Input Guide, Proposals Board, Why, Ten Questions, and Ask Ketrick. (Some of these were elements that moved to Database in later issues.)

VENUES included Star Fleet Warlord, Play by Email, SFB On Line, Galactic Conquest, and Star Fleet Command.

DATABASE remained the place for new SFB material, including articles on the Omega Sector, Shipyard Report, the Uthicki (a new Magellanic empire), Battle Force 600, an example of black hole movement, new stuff for Prime Directive, Brothers of the Anarchist, and Murphy's Laws of SFB.

SCENARIOS include five new ones (SL178-SL182).

TACTICS included Victory on Line and several pages of Term papers.

FEDERATION & EMPIRE included news about the upcoming Advanced Operations, Rules & Rulings, another look at SIDS, Marine Assault, the War Plans File, Tactical Notes, Economic Notes, and the first draft of Depot Level Repair.

NEW SHIPS for SFB included four for Omega, six Magellanics, Klingon ships for the Middle Years, and Kzinti light cruiser variants.

Captain's Log #21 Now Available from Multiple Sources

The love given and taken from those who faithfully serve to protect our way of life can be seen in the smiles of the children of that society. Only those who have sacrificed to such duty can truly appreciate the art they create. -- Captain Huon Yung, Star Fleet.

Released in November 2000, this issue is chock full of good information for Star Fleet Battles and Federation & Empire.

HISTORY includes "The Art of Duty" by Tom Gondolfi, one of the Day of the Eagles stories told primarily from the viewpoint of the Federation. "Mutiny on the Harasser" by Howard Berkey is a story told from a Klingon point of view. An article on Romulan awards rounds out this section

COMMUNICATIONS continues as a department. This included conventions, tournaments, awards, After Action, Command the Future, Notes for Judges, Input Guide, Proposals Board, Why, Ten Questions, and Ask Ketrick. (Some of these were elements that moved to Database in later issues.)

VENUES include Star Fleet Warlord, Play by E-mail, SFB On-Line, and Star Fleet Command.

DATABASE remains the place for new SFB material, including articles on the Omega Sector, Shipyard Report, the Magellanic empires, Battle Force 600, Early Years ships, new stuff for Prime Directive, a developmental history of Hydran fighters, Brothers of the Anarchist, Starline 2400 miniatures, and an example of boarding party operations.

SCENARIOS include 10 new ones (SL183-SL192).

TACTICS include Victory at Origins 2000 by Paul Scott and nine pages of Term Papers.

FEDERATION & EMPIRE include news about the new F&E 2000 rulebook, Rules & Rulings, strategies for F&E2K, Q&A, and proposed new rules.

NEW SHIPS for SFB include Early Years Gorns, tugs and salvage ships, Kzinti and Lyran captured ships, and Omega tugs and pods -- 17 ships in all.

Captain's Log #22 Now Available from Multiple Sources

Our family will not be dishonored; our home will not be soiled. My blood is pure. -- Klingon traditional saying.

Released in May 2001, this issue is full of good information for Star Fleet Battles and Federation & Empire and includes two of our most popular stories.

HISTORY includes "Fight Fire with Fire" by John Sickles, in which a Klingon probe into Tholian space meets with unexpected resistance. "A Plague on Their Houses" by Scott Moellmer is a story of revenge -- or treachery, depending on your point of view. Articles on Federation defense battalions and the Klingon C7 heavy battlecruiser class history round out the section.

COMMUNICATIONS continues as a department. This included service awards, notes for judges, information for Star Fleet Rangers, after-action reports, input guide on SSDs, proposals, why, an introduction to Star Fleet Battle Force, ask Admiral Growler, and Starline 2400 miniatures.

VENUES include Star Fleet Warlord, Star Fleet Command, Play by Email, and SFB Online.

DATABASE remains the place for new SFB material, including articles on the Omega Sector fast patrol ships, Early Years update, Battle Group 550, Early Years ships, Shipyard report, Prime Directive, Brothers of the Anarchist, and an example of speed changes in combat.

SCENARIOS include seven new ones (SL193-SL199).

TACTICS include Patrol Victory at Origins 2000 by Kevin Block-Schwenk, an article on Qari tactics, and nine pages of Term Papers.

The FEDERATION & EMPIRE section include news about the planned F&E Advanced Operations expansion, The Red-WYN Express for F&E, strategic information, Q&A, tactics articles, and proposed new rules.

NEW SHIPS for SFB include the Gorn DNC, Federation FCF, Tholian CWV, Lyran DWG and DDE, the first Omega PFs and PFTs, Early Years Lyrans, auxiliary scouts, and drone ships -- 20 ships in all.
