I'm a bit confused as to the victory conditions.
Do the Klinks get points for exiting the board in addition to getting points for blowing up Fed ships? I ask because the scenario is weighted in favor of the Klinks, and it would seem to be even more unbalanced if the Klinks had both the larger force as well as a method of scoring additional victory points - without some counter-balancing advantage for the Feds.

Just giving the scenario a quick look-over, it strikes me that the Klingon ships cannot necessarily use their full advantages of mobility and firepower because they have to get through the Federation line to score max VP's.

This means that, sooner or later, they are going to have to run the gauntlet of the Feds and their overloaded photons, and not just Saber Dance until the Feds get fed up and jettison their overloads in order to catch up.

So, the Klinks have to come to the Feds, it appears. That is probably the tactical pivot point. The forces are fairly evenly matched in terms of numbers; I personally don't think that the scenario is too heavily weighted in the Klinks' favour. But that's just my opinion of course....

I'm reading it differently.

The Klink have more points (1232 to 1053) and a stronger fleet. *If* they score points for blowing stuff up, they can just engage in a standard battle with the Feds. Having more points, the odds favor them. Meaning they can win just by enagaging in a standard fleet battle. That the scenario would also give them points for moving off in a certain direction makes it even more lopsided.

Unless the Klinks only score points for disengagement.
Hence the question.

OH, followup question - the map size (width, in particular, as the map will float along its length), would those be the large size hexes or the small size hexes? Being only two wide, large size would be awfully cramped.

I've gotta say I did wonder about that Smile

I would like to say as the Klingon in command that we did find the Feds and ATTEMPT the gaunlet. It was not pretty for those with the wrinkly heads. Lots of fireworks, lots of vaporized metal.

The Klinks managed to get an F5 and E4 off but that was all. JP's plan was quite sound and I realized half a turn to late that I should have firewalled 2 of our cruisers. If we had then perhaps a C7 an D5 would have disengaged.

As it turned out we couldn't quite get the edge and the Feds made us pay.

Hats off to Commodore Perry and his faithful sidekick TJ.

Who might that be? The Klingons in TOS and the SFU are smooth-headed.

Yet you knew who he was talking about.

It was a fun game.
Even though the Feds won, I was still frustrated by my inability to line up the shots I wanted and my inability to simply find range one to slap a tractor on a Klink vessel.

I had the battle fairly well documented and was going to post it up here, but it ended a bit too one sided to make for good reading in an AAR.

I suppose I prefer the wrinkled heads to the spray tan Klinks you refer to.

Next time JP I promise to keep it closer Wink
