|
|
One of the most popular RPG game engines in the industry is the Traveller series (produced, in various incarnations, by Game Designer's Workshop and Steve Jackson Games), and the current "Mongoose Traveller" incarnation is the most successful ever. They have an "open license" and Jean Sexton's team was already at work doing a Prime Directive Traveller version for that system. Our experiences with GURPS, however, showed that any RPG done by a publisher other than the original will have at most 10% of the sales of books by the original publisher. (Hence, our GURPS books are done to the design standard of SJG books, but sell only a fraction of the numbers.) Doing these books as a joint venture means every retailer will carry them. _________________

| The original Traveller was the second RPG my brothers taught me and I've always had a special feeling towards it. I love the new Mongoose take on it, especially the life events in character creation. I look forward to seeing the Prime Directive version. |

I've been playing Traveller since '83, and Mongoose Trav since it's release day! I even play a homebrew Traveller Trek, so this is the best news I could get!
Is there an approximate ETA yet? And you guys are going to proof it right? Mongoose sometimes don't proof their stuff that well.

Chris, Mike West and I will be working on it. We do pretty well as a team when we check Ship Card packs and Communique. He finds all the crunchy parts and I find the fiddly parts and that pretty well does it! _________________

On my side, please know that I am very familiar with Traveller, and have played Traveller for a long time. (Two of my most prized gaming possessions are The Traveller Book and The Traveller Adventure.) I will do my best to honor both Traveller and the SFU. _________________

That's good to hear.
I'm quite excited by this. I noticed you on the Mongoose forum Mike - I'm captrooper there.

Mongoose has stated that SF characters just don't sell, so there most likely won't be. Our cardboard Klingon crew did not sell well, so I highly doubt that we would invest in a project that would lose money. Sorry. I wish they had sold better as that was the first question I asked as well. _________________

| Sad news about the character minis, but interesting news regarding Mongoose Traveller Prime Directive. Will this be available as a hardback? |

Shame on the character mini front... But I can make do with what I have
FWIW I have the card minis that came with the Gunboat, but I've never used them, as I have plenty of Klingons in 28mm.

| This is so exciting. I can't wait to see PD in a system as slick as Traveller. |

Very good news! I just stumbled upon the thread on this on the Mongoose site (it's 10 pages in length now) and wanted to give a "+1" from me about this product.
I started playing Traveller back in the "little black book" years, roughly 1977 and first discovered SFB back in the first boxed set (deluxe?) and have often wondered how Star Trek and Traveller might blend together.
This is just too cool! _________________ Marv (Finarvyn)
