Hello people, i have a (not so small) model. (like one of those models that you have to clear the surface of your bookshelf to place it on) Just wondering, i need to spray paint the hull of the enterprise White but the guy who gave it to me, gave me a Primer.

Should it be used Question

Please help me....

Wow, do you have to be part of the 'in' group to get a response around here?

I would say yes,use the primer, but make sure that you have washed down the model with warm soapy water first,to make sure that you've removed all the release agent from the surface before you spray it. Also, test the primer first on some of the left over sprue,to make sure that it doesn't have an adverse effect on the plastic. Give the model multiple light coats of spray rather than one thick one,or you'll obliterate any fine detail on the surface of the model, and you'll help to lessen the chances of blobs or runs on the model.
Hope this helps.

No... but at this time (mid to late June), many of us are being time-crunched to get final reports submitted on projects that need to be printer before Origins, painting last minute minis before Origins, packing/repacking the Origins supplies to insure that you get verything needed for the games/events you are running.

This is the type of question I typically look for and as a self-appointed minis guru, endeavor to answer.

I apologize for missing this one in the rush.
Basically, David got the answer I'd have given.

Even on model cars, I prime before painting.
Wash the pieces with soap/water to remove mold release residue...
Prime to provide a surface the paint can stick to...
(Yes, paint will stick to styrene, but primer usually has a different chemical composition and will stick more readily, then the paint adheres to the primer)
Paint...
Enjoy!

I wouldn't use the spray paint as the primary hull color though. I advise painting your true hull color over the primer. If the spray primer is old, using it can be risky as I have experienced problems with an old can of primer. I will most certainly be getting some brand new primer before embarking on my next project. Check out the "PLEASE HELP" thread to see the specific problems I have had. Best of luck to you!

The slow response on this thread is a fluke. In my experience, these experts here respond with lightning quick speed to just about any question you have, be it mini's or anything SFU related. As far as I know, if you enjoy the SFU and or the mini's, you ARE in the "in" crowd here.
