This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer....

Why do some of the ships have more drone damage tracks than drones that they can control?

For example the Fed Battlecruiser in Comm 8, 15 and 59 shows 12 drone damage tracks; however, it can only control 6 drones.

Because there was room for them.

Basically, when Steve creates the ship cards with drone racks, he places what drone damage tracks on it he can. The intention is to at least put the maximum number it can control, but sometimes that isn't possible. And, some other times, he puts in extra to fill up what would otherwise be a blank space.

So, it is "artistic license", really.

It's more the number the ship carries. I never really think about what it can control.
