I just downloaded Vassal and F&E. I need some help with playing the game and getting things to work. I am totally lost. Thanks,

Matt

You're in luck! I usually don't check these forums, but I just happened to swing by.

First off, what's giving you trouble at the moment? Getting the module going, how to play F&E in general... or the fun interface between the two?

If it's the first, check the html file that was included with inside the zip file you downloaded, that should help get the module up and running.

If it's the last, open the module, start a new game (I'd select The Wind as a famililar starting point), and once it's all loaded, check the 'User Manual' in the Help menu. That should help get some basics across.

Past that, details on where you are, and what you think you should be doing next will help. Smile

Well, since I only have 2010, I have started a base setup scenario using the setup for The WInd in my rulebook. I think I am going to attemp the whole general war thing, but I could not find a counter for the Fed CVL. Is it hidden somewhere, or not in the game? I have figured out all the rest of the counters.

It's listed in the latest update to the Fed SIT.

(If it helps, the BBS has a list of master SIT updates that act as a useful reference point.)

If you aren't signed up over on the BBS already, I would recommend it; the bulk of official F&E discussions and (public) developments happen over there.

The module is organized around the full set, so there's occasional things like this. Survey ships are provided in SO, and the CVL is with the rest of them. Go to "Support Units & Bases" and then to "Survey", and you'll find it.

Also, there's a scenario provided that has all the ships for the Wind provided in the module. Look for it in the initial drop down when you select 'start new game offline'. It has all the ships pulled, but the ones from the expansions are in stacks labeled for their expansions (CO, AO, FO, PO, SO), so it is easy to just delete those and get down to the base set. They're just in the fleet boxes from the OB, so of course you get to do your own setup from there.
