What are some good terrains to fight in or avoid for tholians. And some good tactics for those terrains. _________________ Wil neeley |

Everyone will tell you asteroids. Which is true. With asteroids, you can use web casters to shoot linear anchored web strands everywhere. While they will disappear rather quickly, it will take much, much longer than will free standing web. It is a total nightmare for the opponent.
However, I want to recommend an evil alternative: pulsars. The beauty of pulsars is that they spit out nasty amounts of damage to everyone on the board. There is no way to hide from it. Oh, wait! You have web casters! Just cast a web between you and the pulsar and the web strength will be subtracted from the pulsar blast. That means your opponent is always taking more damage than you. Heck, you play it right, and have a nasty enough pulsar, and you can kill the opponent without even shooting at them! (OK, that is a really compliant opponent, but you get the idea.) _________________

Alternatively, you might want to avoid fighting in a nebula, since generated or cast web won't work there. You can still use the web fist option, but with the same penalties in play as will be for your other direct-fire weapons.
The inability of web to operate in a nebula is tied into one aspect of Tholian history back in the home galaxy, as detailed in an article from Captain's Log #41. One of their old enemies, the Nebuline, founded colonies inside various nebulae across the M81 Galaxy. While the Nebuline were on the losing side of the Great Martial War (a major conflict the Tholians fought during their rise to dominance), the Tholians could not conquer them outright, since breaking into each and every one of their nebula-based strongholds was too much trouble. The Nebuline would go on to build "export" models of their raiding vessels and sell them to aspiring pirate bands across the home galaxy, which were shown in Ship Card form as the Old Galaxy Raider and Destroyer in Captain's Log #40.
That probably won't matter if you stick with battles in the Milky Way. However, if you ever decide to try the rules in (8B4) governing battles in the home galaxy, and want to see what kind of opposition the Will had to deal with before the Seltorian Revolt broke out, trying to take on an OGR or OGD in the midst of a nebula might make for an interesting challenge. (It's reported that the Nebuline have unique technology which allows their "native" ships to fight at an advantage in a nebula, but no rules for that empire have been published as of yet.) _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)
