This is a mini of the infamous Space Amoeba made by one of the guys in our gaming group (Ben). Shown facing it down is a Federation heavy cruiser attempting to gain information about it (the cruiser was also made by Ben).

Nice idea indeed. Beads and whatnot in clear resin, I assume?

I resisted the temptation to call it snot-on-a-stick... Do'h, I did.

Well, Ben did say that he was congested that day and had run out of tissues...

No, seriously...he said he used hot glue with some other stuff inside it. I thought it was pretty original!

Hot glue. Even easier to do.

I'll have to make one of these someday.

Thanks for the kudos everyone. Here's an explanation of exactly how I did it:

1. Get a cotton ball. Pull it into small pieces.
2. Soak pieces in watered down paint. I used red, dark red, and a yellowish color.
3. Use a glue gun to put a small lump of hot glue on a surface you will be able to get it off of. I used a piece of bare metal.
4. Pull it off and flip it over. This forms the top of the amoeba. This is to ensure it will remain rounded.
5. Put more hot glue over the flat side of it, adding in the cotton ball pieces as you go. Insert a bead for the nucleus.
6. Pull the amoeba off while it is still not entirely solid. Hold in a way to keep the shape round and stick a stand into it. I just used a thick plastic toothpick I had laying around. Official stands would work as well.
7. Let it cool. If you need to, add a little glue to smooth parts of it.
8. Add a base, and you're done!

Note: I have since found colored hot glue sticks, which may work even better than the cotton ball idea.

I've read about a couple of amoebas made this way and have considered making one... but I've always found other things to do...

Now that I've seen a picture, I may have to give it a try.

Good job, Ben!

Hey, Ben...how about considering doing a mini for the Mind Monster? It could be a big brain.

Whoever did the Amoeba (curse this forum and it's lack of real names) please write it up and Email it to me and I'll publish it in Captain's Log. It's a really clever idea!
